Hey guys... I havent got a haircut in about 3 months or so, been growing it out. I have always had it short, so i wanted to grow it out, and I like it. But I'm definitely getting a cut soon, and Im going to a party that a girl invited me to on new years eve, so I really want to look slick. I dont use any products on my hair, but i do have some pomade. Any tips would be awesome, I just dont want to cut it short! Personally, I like it slicked back, more wavy than curly, but it needs gel to get to that point i believe.

The lighting is pretty bad, and Im thinning on one side =x (hopefully not too noticable?), but i wanted to be sure you could see what hair i have. Thanks for any replies! I'm 24 btw.

You need to get a relaxer put in your hair. You have a jew fro and you're always going to have a jew fro until you do this (regardless of if you are a jew or not). Relaxers are what black girls put in their hair to get it somewhat straight but it works WONDERS on white people hair and any stylist can do it, if you have previously highlighted or dyed your hair in the past few months they may be reluctant to do it because it can be quite damaging but you can typically find a stylist who is willing.

As for the style, if you want a longer look and are in your mid-twenties I think something similar to the following would be good...

<3 John Stamos.

Anyway...obviously you'll have to grow your hair out a bit more (but probably not that much considering you will add a LOT of length once it is straightened, you'll be surprised how much).

I would also consider going a few shades darker but you are going to have a hard time finding a stylist who will do this after a relaxer. You can accomplish it, however, with a SIMPLE and very easy on your hair dying technique (which I will explain later) and if you aren't sure you want to die it you can spray it with a natural color of colored hair spray while gelled to see how it would look.

I used to have NEON pink hair but needed to do a contest video for a Lifetime contest (which I was the national winner for! thank you $5 bottle of colored hair spray). Here is what it looked like with the spray on...

Image

You could barely see the pink, and it washes right out...so it really does give you a good perspective of how your hair would look a different color.

Now...you can buy the colored hair spray I'm talking about at Sally Beauty Supply (I'm assuming you live in the states) for like $5 and it comes in blond brown and black..I think you would look MUCH better as a brunette.

If you decide you like the color, you can dye your hair VERY simply. All you need is (also from Sallys) a mixer (it's like a squirt bottle that you will mix all the ingredients in), 20 developer CREAM, and ONE box of the color of your choice. This will cost you less than $10, and make sure you get the CREAM and not the water/oil based developer or you will have a runny mess on your hands. Once at home, take the mixing bottle and add ALL of the dye (should be 1.5 oz if I remember correctly) 3 oz of 20 developer and 2 oz water, or until a runny but not INSANELY running consistency. What you will then do is squirt this all over your hair after it has been wet and shampooed (NO CONDITIONER) and rub it in like you're shampooing your hair, YES your hair should be wet while doing this! Leave this in for 10-15 minutes, rinse and use a deep condition on your hair for 5 minutes which is also available from Sally at the front counter for 99 cents. This is a tip I got from a stylist last time I was at Sallys and it gives me a very pretty blond color I am VERY happy with and is very easy to do maintenance on my hair while at the same time very little damage is done to my hair.

Okay, I know that was a lot, but I really like hair and have a lotttt of experience dying mine so if you need anymore help and I forget to check this thread, PM me.

One more thing, you NEEEED to get your eyebrows waxed. If you make it clear to the stylist that you still want very manly eyebrows she will accomplish this and you will be so happy with how much it opens up your eyes and NO ONE will even know you wax your eyebrows because she will make it look natural. After she waxes your eyebrows you can keep them up simply by plucking (you just pluck the hairs that are regrowing to keep the original shape she gave you!)

I hope this helps and I think if you made that change to your hair and shaped your eyebrows you will have NO problem picking up any girl!

Thank you for the thorough tips! I looked up "hair relaxer" on the web, since I never heard of it before. It sounds a bit dangerous... and I'm already worried about my hair getting thinner =(. Is there any alternative? I don't want super-straight hair, is there a way to make it more wavy, but not completely straight, and is this safer to do? Are there any gels or things u can put in ur hair to get it wavy but not permanent? I'd like to be in this sort of ballpark...

thinning hair always looks best cut real, real short. work with it instead of against it.

Well, you can try this, but with as short as your hair is I don't know if it will work and it's quite time consuming.

You will need Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Humidity Smoothing Milk and Curl Sculpting Cream Gel (two separate products).

This you will need a hair dryer with a diffuser, it looks like this:

Image

It's an attachment for the end of your hair dryer that is for use with curly or wave hair.

You would start by towel drying your hair and then add a dime size amount of the Sleek and Shine Anti-Humidity Smoothing Milk to your hair. Then take a comb or brush and run it through your hair as you blow dry...this takes out a lot of the curl from your hair if you do it right. Once your hair is about 1/2 dry take a small amount of the Curl Sculpting Cream Gel and scrunch that into your hair and then finish drying with the blow dryer without running the brush/comb through it anymore. This SHOULD give you a wavier but structured look. Obviously this really isn't going to work right not because I don't think your hair is long enough at all but if you continue to grow it out it might...I haven't felt your hair so I don't know how course it is or any of that. These styling products are super cheap though and really good, I think they work better than most salon products, and you can find them at Target.

I agree with the guy who said if your hair is thinning then the shorter the better. Ive personally had really thin hair my whole life, Its not "thinning" persay as I have the exact same ammount now as I did when I was 14. Its just thin and straight. Ive gone through trial and error with my hair and had every style you could imagine and used every product around in the search of confidence in my hair style.

Firstly if I was you Id cut it shorter. I know youve built up a comfort zone in having a bit of length but self improvement is all about stepping out of your comfort zone right? Secondly make sure you use DRY products in your hair! Anything wet look like Gels or wax's with wet/shiney finishes are going to make your hair appear thinner and also the shine will draw attention to your scalp. Their is a GREAT product that I use called "Queen for a day" (lol yeh I know the name sounds kinda gay but Ive used everything and this stuff is the best!). Basiclly its a thickening spray. You spray it all over your hair while its still relatively wet (not soaking) and you then dry it off with a hair dryer while the product is in your hair. The heat and the product reacts with your hair follicals or something along those lines and makes them expand and makes your hair appear noticelby thicker its great!

What you do after this is apply a dry product through your hair to style it. I recommend a matt clay wax. Matrix dirty trix is great, theirs another product out there called muck which is great. and the rockstar range isnt so bad either. Apply it sparingly because if you use too much your hair will group together too much and revert to revaling that its thinning. Last but not least blast it with some hair spray to keep it all in place and you'll be amazed with how big a difference its created.

Also letting your facial stubble grow out a little bit and maintaining it with clippers can take a bit of attention away from your thinning hair and also blends in well with the shorter sides. This is a look I myself wear.

I think Daniel Merriweathers hair style would look awsome on you. granted its a big change and it will take some confidence to pull off but thats what we're here for right? Its better to have somebody comming upto you on the street mistaking you for Daniel Merriweather than having people mistake you for Screech right?

You should contact cosmetic companies and strike up a deal for your product placements in your pua forum posts :P

...lord knows a bunch of guys will actually buy these specific products

Best Option -

Go to your an expensive hair salon, book an appointment with them and ask them what the best thing they can do with your hair is, they will look at the shape of your face and body and tell you what will look good, then you can go 2 a cheaper place and get it done there...SIMPLE

Hey guys, so update:
I went to get a haircut yesterday... pretty much, explained to the stylist i wanted to keep growing it out. She trimmed the sides and back mostly, and fixed up a bit of the split ends but that was it. She also brought up the hair relaxer before I even brought it up, and she said when she does it, she doesn't aim for having stick straight hair, but will just give me broader waves. She has a relaxer from italy, I forget the product name and i wish i had it now. Anyways, she said i could do the relaxer on friday, and to think about it. What do you guys think? Here's some pics of the cut.... I had it slicked back and it's a bit too curly for that. For kicks, I parted it like the 50's style (this is how i used to wear it in h.s., only shorter) and kinda liked it, especially long since it makes my shoulders appear bigger. Anyways... let me know, I have till Friday to decide.

p.s. long hair is fun =P

Sup guys, so here's an update.. I went ahead and got a relaxer about 2 weeks ago. The stylist decided she wanted to only make it wavy, which I agreed with. My ultimate goal being, i wanted long, wavy hair that could go down to my neck, but i can push past my ears. It's obviously not long enough now, but i plan to grow it out another 6 months at least. Anyways, here is my pic now. Lemme know if theres any products i can use to set it apart from just wavyness. Thanks!

dude, i hate to say it, but someone has too.

that balding peak in the front is not gonna get smaller. looks pretty silly now.

clip it all the way down, grow out some stubble, and Jason Statham it.
