I'm a senior in high school right now, one semester left until I graduate. I'll be going to a community college for a year or two after HS. By the time I get to college I want a "new wardrobe", so I want to start now.

I'm looking for a new style...I don't really have a certain style right now besides dressing nice (for high school anyways). Right now I wear stuff from Tillys, PacSun, etc... Under Armour on casual days.

I'm short, 5' 6"...I'm not ripped, but I'm not a toothpick either...so I've got a little muscle I would like to bring out.

I don't need/want really expensive clothing, preferably on the more affordable side...as I will be a freshman in college.

I'm a little lost, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

im in college right now and honestly when i got out to parties or college bars all i wear is cool looking t-shirts (from karmaloop.com), a pair of jeans, and a fresh pairs of kicks (i have a nice collection of shoes). sometimes i wear the occasional polo, not very often though. when i walk into parties or bars i immediately get iois because my style is different from most guys that go to my college.

trust me be different in your style(not weird different) and you will get noticed by females then all you have to do is spit a good game.

what he just do try to hard to dress just to go to class. ill see people in suits a my cc and im sure im not the only one thinking their a tool.

also try a tapered look if your trying to show off muscle alittle. vintage type t-shirts or v-neck, slim fit jeans, a nice belt you can wear all the time, maybe a thin watch, dont try to hard to show off muscles if you got them everyone can tell.

You can go a couple ways with this.

Are you from the south? Dress southern preppy. Khakis, polos, sperrys, etc. All my friends are hot blond sorority girls and they drool over any guy dressed southern preppy. BUT this is expensive, so get over that now.

Are you a guido? Do you live in the Northeast? Honestly, I don't know why some girls like it, but they do. I know a lot of girls that go crazy over the guys who dress pretty much like guidos sans the hair gel and fake, orange tan. But if you choose to do this for god's sake be original. PLEASE don't wear affliction, tapout or ed hardy...find some classier brand to wear, or just find things that LOOK nice. Black/pinstriped button downs, nice/not trashy graphic tees, 1-2 nice pairs of jeans will go SO far for you in college and dark wash is in right now..check out Express for Men for most of this, and it will be $$$ but worth it.

Or you can dress like a scenester/hipster but you can ONLY do this if you have the attitude to pull it off, you actually listen to shitty indie music and you are skinny as fuck. American Apparel, American Apparel, American Apparel...say it with me. We have a couple hipsters at my college who do pull it off and pretty much every girl I know likes them to some degree. However, they are all SUPER skinny, have some ridiculous hair style, are very outgoing and cool and are very into the indie scene.

Oh, and as someone else said, whatever style you decide to go with...definitely wear jeans, a t-shirt, a hoodie, etc to class because dressing up unless you're pledging, have a nice job after class or some other REALLY good excuse just makes you look like a douche bag. College is all about napping and well..napping, so don't dress up for class when you know you'll just be napping.

Thanks for the all replies...very helpful.

I was looking around on karmaloop. What are some nice brands that aren't to played out, and people won't be like, "He's wearing (insert brand here), he's a douche bag."

Thanks.

just go with what u like. i buy stuff from a lot of different brands on karmaloop. bobby fresh, abstraxx, bean dip, ez lifestyle, freshnes, im king, pennant race, caked out, dissizit!, once upon a time in ny, and the loots(most of these brands are in the kazbah section which is the underground clothing, so generally most people have never even heard of the stuff i wear). if its a nice shirt people will be like where did u get that from and u can start conversations from there. i take a look on there about every couple days and if i find something i like i bookmark it and buy it later if i dont have money. i also use karmaloop rep so i can get free shirts every once in a while.

Okay, thanks man.

Does anyone know of some other sites similar to karmaloop?

if you're looking for a more interesting look, you don't necessarily have to shop at entirely new stores.

I usually have trouble finding t-shirts/shirts/hoodies to wear. If I go into a regular mall, chances are that I won't like 90% of their stuff.....HOWEVER, at stores like American Eagle, Macy's, Express, etc. I'm still able to find something that I like that is congruent with my style. I like a more urban look. I also like H&M and Heritage which are becoming more popular.

However, one thing- I NEVER shop at Hollister or Abercrombie because, in all honesty, that shit is boring and played out.

For jeans, I would listen to gabbythefck and go with the dark wash jeans, and be careful with the rips and holes and stuff, cuz sometimes it ends up looking ridiculous. Also, make sure they fit well. If you wanna go with skinny jeans, that's cool too, but definitely make sure they are kinda snug cuz that definitely looks better. Express and Gap have nice jeans and you can find those stores everywhere. Good pairs of jeans are MUCH, much easier to find, in my opinion.

Now, that said, online shopping is a really good choice, cuz you can find TONS of interesting clothes that are very cool and unique. Also, I don't know where you live, but I live in NYC (but in Staten Island :( ) , so just a trip into Manhattan is a surefire bet to find some interesting clothes. If you live close to a city, then that's a good way to go too, you'll probably find some good stuff.

Find out what you like, most famous PUA's, from what I've seen, have an edgier, urban look with darker colors, which I like, but you may not like that.
Be unique with what you pick to wear and make sure that YOU like it.

Jeans will get you a long way as long as they look clean but not dressy. Next most important thing is your shoes... yea i said it, your shoes! If you're going out, the shoes tell alot about you. I rock the black casual sketchers with brown stripes that could be worn for dress or lounging. (Remember to match belt color with shoe color)From there it's more up to you.

I ussually go with any full length button down either solid color or striped. Then I'll throw on a skinny tie hanging farther down than it should with an extra button unbottoned at the top. (Sleeves rolled above elbow)

You can do a button down with a thin sweater over top showing off the collar and cuffs of the undershirt. (sleeves pushed slightly up forearm)

Or I do the button down with a black button up vest (unbuttoned) and the sleeves pushed up above the elbow.

Mind you, I'm 6'5", slim/athletic build and am not into to indie crap but do like alternative. So mostly I would listen to gaby, she has it pretty much down.

Express is a really good store for college clothes but you should go in there to see what the style is and then find someplace else that has the same stuff cheaper. A buttondown there is almost $60, but I can go into any other store and find the same quality and style for about $20.

Hope it helps,
~GQute

EDIT: by the way, this is just for when you're going out (i.e. bars, parties,etc..) as far as class and stuff goes, just don't look dirty and you'll do fine.

Thanks for the replies.

What are some nice shoes, but not too nice, for during the day? Specifically for school/everyday, not sarging etc.

For what it sounds like (I'm English so the meaning of college is slightly different), I'd say grab a load of tee's for college.

They are a lot more relaxed looking I think.

i have nice brown, suade Kswiss sneakers that work for going out AND for everyday use. They look decently dressy, but also casual and work great with nearly anything I wear.
I think brownish or dark colored casual sneakers are a good way to go. Like those sketcher ones that GQute was talking about.
