Now I have known about this for sometime now but apparently Joe Satriani (Instrumental Rock Guitarist) has also discovered that the band Coldplay's song Viva La Vida sounds suspiciously like the song "If I Could Fly" by Joe Satriani and he is now going to launch a court case to sue Coldplay for royalties.
Now this might sound a bit like some typical egotistical guitar player trying to get some extra cash but I assure you he is well within his rights, listen to this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1ofFw9DKu_I before reading further.

I met Joe Satriani 2 years ago and he is the least egotistical man I have ever met, I would go as far to say that it is his record label and management that are pushing this lawsuit more so than himself (they'd probably get a portion of the money).

If anyone thinks this is excessive let me put it to you this way.
You write a song, you release it on an album that has a bit of success but nothing major, then 3 or 4 years down the road another band comes along and releases a song that has the exact same chord progression and melody line as your song did. It hits Number 1 in the charts in 36 countries, makes the band millions and wins them various awards..........would you be ok with that? Or would you want to do something about it?
I know what I'd do.
