When I started out, I must admit that the Mystery Method stuff really helped to shape my game, and where I needed to go at any point during the sarge. Now I don't even think about it because it is second nature to me. You should definitely learn the structure, but whether or not you do it step by step like Mystery recommends, depends on how comfortable you are at being natural at various stages in the interaction.
