Alright, so I went out and opened a few sets in the mall. I'm pretty new at this so I was surprised at how readily I was accepted once I got the false time constraint in. HOWEVER, when I actually pretended to leave after DHVing and making the set comfortable, all the sets basically let me go:

Me: Anyway, I gotta get back to my friends
Girls: Aww alright, nice talking to you, byee
(roughly what happens)

Am I doing the takeaway wrong, should I stack something onto it so it generates interest so that I can go into a prepared story..or is it a matter of not enough DHV beforehand? Or should I just not mention leaving at all?

When you say "i gotta get back to my friends" even the most talented pick-up artists face that "aww ok, nice talking to you". It doesn't mean ur doing something wrong. So u really dont need to worry bout that.

About the leaving part, u dont necessarily have to leave a group if u want to stay. If u play ur game right, there wont be a problem with you hanging around. What you can do is talk, and every now & then in the conversation you lean back on one foot as if you're just about to leave. It shows that ur not afraid to leave, ur independent as to say, which itself is a big plus ( + )

Here's another lil trick u can do with Time constraint. You go up, introduce urself, say whatever & use the time contraint. Then LEAVE: ur busy, u gotta get back to ur friends or whatever u were doing. Then the magic part: later on you come back to see her, this time u won't need time constraints, no openers & all that, cause u already did it the first time. She'll feel comfortable & have the feeling (so will you) that you already know eachother, even though you just met. It makes everything so much easier & it all flows better.
Basically its just aproaching twice. very short the first time, then the second time for good.
