This subject has been debated over and over. PUAs as predatory, PUAs as manipulative, PUAs as bad guys. I have had enough of the misconceptions.
Normally I should have posted this in the PUA lounge section but it is the newbies that need to read it.

PU includes a lot of different techniques developed to get a woman to feel attraction. How do we do that, by avoiding the feeling of threat, the feeling of wierd! To behave! This is the deal!

I would like to compare the PU arts to the Martial arts.

Many many people know about martial arts. What are martial arts? A way to learn fighting? NO! It is not. Ok, it's techniques are based on fights. However, martial arts is more of a mental training than it is a way to learn fighing.

How does this compare to the PU arts? Well...

Are PUAs players?
No more than martial artists are brawlers.

Well put man. But the two are also similar in that there are a lot of knuckleheads who get into martial arts to learn a few moves, or who ignore the mental aspect and just focus on how to kick ass. They end up missing out on vital development, and in the end, they even limit how effective they can become vs. if they were to devote themselves fully to the art. With the pick-up thing, I think it's really easy to come to a place like this and take a few "moves" (openers, k-closes, etc.), and some of it might actually help. But it won't make them any more of a pick-up artist than learning a few strikes or locks in a dojo will help someone become a martial artist...

The beauty of it is that both arts hurt until you get good enough... That is why most people never learn them well enough...

Just like in martial arts though, the thing that determines how pickup affects people is intent. Some people are intent on manipulating and taking value and others are about having fun, being awesome people and giving value. Just like some people learn martial arts in order to be able to fight and beat people up and other people learn them to be more mentally focused, in shape and able to defend themselves only if needed. Both can be used for either bad or good purposes and it all comes down to intent.

In the general sense no as the intention of PUA is to have fun and to improve your life overall from girls to the work place.

Martial arts can also be uses as a defensive measure as well. What matters is how you plan on using the knowledge.

Ok, read between the lines. I thought my opinion was clear but obviously not... I do not see martial artist OR PUAs as bad people. My opinion, there are bad people in all groups but in general martial and PU artists are less likely to be bad or dangerous than people who just flail their arms (or other anatomical organs) wildly...

Well put. It's stupid to say PU is predatory. No one is dropping things in drinks and the like. Besides, most PUA's start to study because ... they were not having success the way things were going. Think of it like a chick getting a make over. Is that unethical? If she was kind of not so hot but now is hot?

Think about it.

I agree with Rye, its the Intent of what they are gonna do with the skills and how they use it. Some people use it to better themselves others use it to boost there Ego of being able to pick up chicks and being a "player" why its called pick-up "Artist"? An artist is a descriptive term applied to a person who engages in an activity deemed to be an art. An artist also may be defined unofficially, as, "a person who expresses themselves through a "medium" (in this case picking up women). The word also is used in a qualitative sense of, a person creative in, innovative in, or adept at, an artistic practice.

A pickup artist is literally that, an artist, we learn techniques like an artist learns brush strokes. But brush strokes alone don't make a piece of art, it needs a persons input, which is why PUA can never be evil or not evil.
In every walk of life there are good people and bad people, form my point of view the pickup arts are exactly as I described earlier techniques to change an interaction, from there it is the people that decide the outcome.
