Cause of all the good info here, i decided to try and make a contribution of my own to the forum. the following info is all stuff i read on other sites, and think is important for everyone to know. without further ado:

CHOOSING THE RIGHT COLOGNE:
- DON'T try to save money on cologne, you will smell bad.
- It's suggeted to bring a couple friends with you to buy cologne, and this is how you choose:
- first, spray a cologne onto a card, and see if it smells nice.
- if so, then spray onto a wrist or elbow, and smell it and have a friend smell it. This is because scents smell different once you apply them, and their applied scent varies based on your natural odor.
- inbetween trying on scents (don't double-layer the scents.... obviously) try smelling some coffee to renew your sense of smell
- good places to buy: macy's, nordstrom, etc.
- great brands: Armani, Ralph Lauren... big names, never go for cheap names (bleh!)

OCCASSION:
- the cologne you wear must fit the occassion. There are more romantic, earthy scents, and more sporty, fruity scents. Additionally, heavier scents may fare better in the winter, while lighter scents are better in the summer.

APPLICATION:
- wearing too much is worse than wearing none at all
- how much to put on depends on where you are, for example, you may not want to put on more than 1 spray going for a car ride, in which case you may even consider none (but don't take my word for the latter!)
- FOR SPRAY: there are a variety of techniques. Generally, you will want to spray on pulse points - under the neck, chest, elbows, wrists, etc. As a general rule, never exceed a total of two sprays. I find that a spray on the chest and one on the neck works best. Another method, spray into the air and jump into the cologne. I find this to be a waste of cologne... but it supposedly works. not to exceed two sprays.
- Don't spray cologne on your clothes, it can stain, and cologne relies on your body heat to keep emitting the scent. keep it on the skin.
- FOR NON-SPRAY: sorry can't help you much.

hope this helps someone out there!

Genius toilet trolls have cologne… Fuckin fantastic for “cologne smell opener” it gives you a reason to be wearing two separate types of cologne as well as an opinion.. Also, she’ll laugh when you say toilet troll.

Just to add my top reccomendations are Cool Water, Lucky Number 6, Eternity for Men and Acqua Di Gio.

1) Cool Water- Number 1 on my list. Girls literally pull me into them to smell it. I got my bottle for 20 bucks, still have alot left. Good price. Insane smell.

2) Lucky Number 6- My number 2. Nobody else has it so far that I know. It's rare, so you can be pretty sure nobody else will happento have the same cologne. Smells great, also alot of compliments.

3) Eternity for Men- Great smell, good price. A bit common, however not to many guys wear cologne i've also noticed.

4) Acqua Di Gio- The famous cologne of colognes. Everybody knows it and probably 50% of cologne wearers own it. Thats b/c its a good smell. It is pricy, it smells good, and its common, so I'd say its the best mid-end cologne youll buy.

I have about 20 colognes, so I may be able to give a review if someone requests one, but yea probably not haah.

Quick question: How often do you think it should be applied?

I have to agree with redline on this one, when in doubt go with the cool water. Its got a light sweet scent to it that will drive girls crazy. I cant count how many times girls I dont know walk over and put their face in my chest and just smell me ha ha.

I have two types of cologne right now. I bought the Victoria Secret cologne for men (recommended by a female friend). Its more so for an environment like dinner or hanging out at your place but not a club or bar. For that I have Abercrombie and Fitch Fierce. This works like magic. Reason being, it smells like Abercrombie and Fitch to girls. If your sarging for the 18-23 age range, the smell reminds them of the A&F models they see in pictures in the store. I have even had a few older women tell me its seductive.

ALSO!!! What do you guys think about pheromone colognes? Supposedly if you buy the really good shit, it legitametly works.

Several things to add:

1. Spray some on your bicep. Reasoning is below
Quote:
Bicep: The Best Place to Wear Your Scent

Fragrance is best worn where the skin is warmest, as heat is the most effective distributor of a scent. ‘Pulse points’ work: on the wrists and the collarbone, where blood is closest to the surface of the skin. But a scent will be just as effective worn over a steadily working muscle, such as a bicep. Contrary to myth, fragrance shouldn’t be worn behind the ears – the skin’s oils are different there and spoil the effect of the fragrance.
.

2. Know how long your cologne should last
Quote:
The categories of fragrances aren’t just fancy names for the same thing – they indicate different compound strengths. At up to 30 per cent concentration, perfume is the strongest, lasting anywhere from six hours to nearly a whole day. Eau de parfum, at up to 14 per cent concentration, lasts for a maximum of five hours, while eau de toilette, at around eight per cent, is effective for up to four hours. Cologne is the weakest, at just two to four per cent, lasting just a couple of hours.
3. When finding new aftershaves, spray some on you and then go getting opinions throughout the day. As someone mentioned, the smell changes slightly as you wear it, with the first "top-notes" coming out after about 5 minutes, and the final "base-notes" emerging after approximatly 30 minutes
Quote:
Scents comprise three levels of ‘notes’. The top notes give the fragrance’s initial impact and last for five minutes to half an hour (wait at least five minutes before buying a fragrance). The middle or ‘heart’ notes provide the ‘body’, and are usually made of floral, spicy

or woody ingredients. The base notes come to the fore after about 30 minutes and are the notes that linger – the ingredients used are made of the largest molecules and are slowest to evaporate. Men’s fragrances commonly feature ‘dry’ notes – they give a fresh smell and are achieved with ingredients such as woods, herbs and mosses.
