Okay, I've never posted on this thread and I regret it. I should have started doing this as soon as I found out about this site, but better late than never.

Gentlemen, I need your help. I've been at this for a few months now and it's getting easier, but I'm far from mastering the art so I need some input on this.

Last night (October 24th) my friend and I went out. (He posts on this site as smoothcriminal.) We had a bite to eat and then hit up the Rockbottom Brewery. (We are in Downtown San Diego) We make our way up to the bar (upstairs) and as he goes to the restroom, I order two Yagerbombs and open the two set to my left.

ME: I'll take two Yagerbombs.
[waiting for yagerbombs]

GIRL TO MY LEFT: [looks at me] HELL YEAH!

I notice this and proceed as follows

[looking at her friend then her]

ME: Okay ladies you might want to stand back there might be some collateral damage on this one. [implying that I might make a mess when droping the shot into the Redbull]

GIRL: [gets off her stool and stands behind her friend all the while laughing and saying something.]

ME: [to smooth] Bottoms up!

I drop the shot in purposly trying to make a little splash.

We down them while being cheered by the two girls.

INTERRUPT: Birthday girl shows up.
Girls introduce us to their friend

Smooth orders another two beers and the girls see we're fun guys.

GIRL: Hey guys we'll be over here if you wanna come over.



I grabbed my beer, and went in that general direction.

Here's where the difficulty starts. We havent even built attraction yet, we just opened.

I'm in the general area of where they said they would be.

They wind up at a table. We go to the table. They are happy to see us.
THEY HAVE FUCKING MENUS IN THEIR HANDS!!!

But it's too late, we've already committed. Conversation ensues. They ask what we do and where we're from. We talk some more.

Girls are distracted by their menus. DAMMIT!

Smooth starts a routine. I stack on his. Threads are building, but they are more into the birthday girl, and their fucking menus.

INTURRUPT: Server girl comes in. Girls have not made up their minds. Server leaves. I know she'll be back! Dammit.

INTURRUPT: Three friends of theirs (two guys one girl) show up. We make polite and introduce ourselves, but we are positioned awkwardly. The birthday girl is at the head of the table to my left, HB8 directly to my left, just to the right of birthday girl, HB8 accross from her to the left of birthday girl and Smooth accross from me just to the left of her. So when the other three show up, we are in between them and their friends, but we dont bother to act on it.

INTURRUPT: Server girl again. Lingers this time, new friends need to order.

I get up, excuse myself to the restroom, eyeball Smooth, he shakes his head (eject). I come back

I say something along the lines of

"Hey, Judy called. She wants us to meet her at Dublin Square.

We wish birthday girl a happy birthday. Everyone smiles (genuinely) and we eject.

When we analyzed this later we figured that the girls threw us for a loop. Its almost like we moved from A1 to C1. At least thats what it felt like. Same venue, different environment. Girls too distracted or maybe we just werent as interesting as we thought we were being (doubted) we've been doing this enough to know how to open, and build attraction, but we've never had this much trouble with inturrupts. Just a bad set? Any input guys?


Okay and later that night we tried a moving set, opened perfectly, moved with them, got everyone involved in the conversation, and the HB8.5 in the green short dress next to me says she's from Washington. BAM! My opening.

"Oh really, I used to live in Everette"

HER: REALLY! I'm from Big Bend.

ME: I know where that is.

We talk about the weather up there, and how Seattle is such a cool city, but we hate the weather most of the year.

Then she stumbles in her four inch heals.

Very light neg from me.

"Hey carefull now, I don't want to be seen with a girl who cant walk in heals."

She laughs.

I kino.

Then shit hits the fan. Her stumble threw me off. I blanked.

ME: Classy dress, I like it. Green's my favorite color.

(DAMMIT i say in my head)

HER: Yeah... it's a good color.

(FUCK!!!) Im blank. I don't know why or how it happened.

She stumbles again.

She laughs.

I watch as my opportunity burned up right in my face. She moves on with her friends and I curse myself out loud as Smooth shakes his head in dissappointent. We move on. Find ourselves at Dublin Square. Friend there gives us social proof. The hostess smiles, Smooth initiates. We never enter, but out of nowhere two grils we work with show up completely at random. More social proof, preselection. We bounce to another venue, Hennesey's. We order drinks and from there it went south. Loud venue, live music. The pickings are scarce. Smooth runs a couple of cold read gambits. The night dies. We leave. On the trolley ride home we break down and discuss our adventure. We had a lot to talk about.
