I've realized that my sticking point is continuing the conversation after the opener. I have a girlfriend also, and it's just for fun, but I'd really like to get a number close JUST to know that I can.

Sitting in the library on a computer next to a girl, and I open with the Jealous Girlfriend Routine.

me :"Hey, real quick, I've gotta go, but I wanted to ask you a question. [Insert Routine]."
her: "fluff"
me: light neg
conversation peels off.

It wasn't awkward afterward but I consider this an epic failure.

Advice? =]
