you: If they were to make a movie of your life, what would be the song playing at the opening credits?

her: blah blah blah

you: some kind of neg on how lame the song she picked was, then tell her yours and go on to what they would play at the end..so on and so on

thats good bro.. but make it more like "if you had to pick a song to symbolize your life what would it be?"... i think that might work better than the movie opener thing

I like it.

BTW Khino, its not an opener, you use this when building comfort and rapport.

I agree it falls into the context of comfort or rapport. Very creative though.

I used this last night on a date, and I have one caveat: make sure the girl speaks English well enough to know what the hell you're asking! When I asked her this, she thought I was asking her what music she was into and went down that track. I started trying to clarify what I meant, but then I realized that it still worked to transition away from talking about her work towards something more interesting, so I just rolled with it. The night worked out well, so I'm not complaining...

I still think this is a great and easy conversation piece that I'm going to use a lot - if you have common music tastes, it's an awesome way to get rapport, and if you don't it's a great neg tool.

VERY nice. i like this. this could be used as a cold reading. its a psycho analysis. you could ask about what happens in the film etc.
Thanks man.

absolute gold.
used this 3 times on saturday night...

the brilliance of this soundtrack routine is that you dont even need to follow the pop scene, you can just neg her anyway, especially if the name of the song is lame. the idea of asking what the movie will be about is awesome too and worked better than i thought it would...

convo from saturday night, more or less as it happened:
me: tell me, if there was a movie made about your life, which song would be playing in the opening credits?
her: i think i'd pick "lovebirds" by (some random artist who's name i cant remember)
me: aww, thats so cute... and lame... (heavy on the c&f)
her: hey! *hits my arm* it's not lame! *laughing*
me: so, what, your movie is going to be a romantic comedy, probably involving some heartbreak and then you end up living happily ever after, married to (insert random celeb)?
her: yeah!
me: ok, in that case i'd say "lovebirds" would be perfect for your movie... straight to DVD
her: you're so mean! ok then, what would you have as your intro song?
me: probably "are you ready" by ac/dc, it sets the right tone. i mean, the first line is "are you ready for a good time?" (again, heavy c&f)
her: you're so vain!
me: said the person who thinks she's going to marry (random celeb used earlier)
her: ok! fair enough! *places her hand on my chest for a second*
me: hmm, i'm empty. you get this round, i'll get the next.
her: ok!

done deal

i also used it in a bit of a role playing type of thing where after i asked the girl what happens in her movie, i went on to describe a little short indie film starring the 2 of us... she's a drama student so the role playing thing worked really well, dont know how other girls will respond to the role playing though.

I actually find that any sort of question about MUSIC is very good at gaining rapport fast.

Think about your favourite song...its more than just 'music' right? You get pumped by it, it effects your emotions...you could say that the song 'moves your soul' right?

Well, using simple NLP, when she thinks and goes into detail about her favourite song blah blah blah, as long as you instigate the conversation and ask related questions - that rollercoaster feeling our favourite song on full blast gives her (go on crank yours up now, you'll see what I mean. Dancing? Singing along?) will be anchored to you.
