i've been doing this for a while and i have a few openers i took from here and made up by myself. there not perfect but most of them are field tested by me and they get the conversation started.

the first one and my favorite.
"hey you look so familiar, did we go to high school together?"
i live in a small town where everybody knows everybody. when she says no i tell her that she has a twin that she doesnt know about.

second
"hey my sister's birthday is coming up in 2 day and i dont know what to get her, a gift or just money so lets pretend its your birthday, what would you want? "
you dont have to use your sister. you could use mom's birthday to open a mom and daughter set.

third,
" i want to know if all girls are alike becasue my cuzin is talking with this guy and she has hinted to him that she wants to go out with him,but he hasnt done it and i tell her that she has nothing to lose, just to ask him out but she says that guy has to do it,do you agree with that?"

fourth
"i was hanging out with my friend over the weekend and she was telling me that theres 3 things girls hate about a guy, a short guy, guy with no confedence, and a guy with no money. true?"
then if she says true about a guy with no money you could call her a gold digger or something else playful.

and thats pretty much it.
if you like one go head and use it and if you have any advice of how to make them better let me know.

those are good openers, and i have confidence in all of them except the first one which seems a little situational

I liked the first one best. You don't have to say high school. You could say anything. Do you frequent, name some place etc..

id agree. i like the first one, i think thats got some humour and stubborness to it.

i personally didnt like the others. they just seemed to flat and 'everyday'
