I can see both ways, where the friend makes the girls feel safe, and could possibly take the edge off for an approach, but I could also see the potential to be shot down with "sorry, girls night out". Anyway, just wondering what you guys thought, and if making an approach on a group like this, would you make nicest with the gay friend, or the least attractive girl?

Usually gay friends aren't as protective as other female friends because they don't see the downside to getting laid like women do, but that really depends person to person.

I've found that they're normally pretty open and happy that they're not being discriminated against, so they're likely to be less bitchy than any of the girls. However, don't be obvious about the fact that you're just talking to get in with one of his friends. Really try to come off like you're just being cool and want to be friends with the group.
