I know this is a rubbish field report but hey it's my first go at a sarge...... I work in a bookshop, a HB 8/9 came into the shop and asked what value Gift Tokens we sold. "Any you like" i nervously replied. "Can I have a ten pound one" she asked. "Except ten pounds" I replied. She looked at me puzzled. "Are you telling lies?" she asked. "How rude" I replied, "are you always so rude in shops?" She laughed. "ok £12.50 then" she said. "And £12.50, we don't do those either." She laughed more. "Now I know you're joking" she said. I then sold her the tokens and she said "you've really brightened up my day." She left the shop smiling.

Well that's it. I'm impressed with myself for getting this far but, what should I have said to make this better and continue the exchange? Any ideas?

I have been meaning to ask a question about how to handle these sorts of situations for a while.
I see a problem with these sorts of things. You are at work, if the customer does not like what you are saying you can't just leave, you can be fired.
Still, looks like you made her happy. Thats good.
