Since puberty I've had a really deep voice, all the ladies like it however and thats fine with me. The problem's that it's too deep and leads to people thinking I'm mumbling, which is horrible because then I have to repeat myself. Also happens in class too making it a HUGE dlv as I could confuse everyone. This is a problem on the phone also as I might have to say something three times just to get my point across. I know speaking louder and clearly would work but do you guys have any other tips on speaking more clearly?

Amen bro. I get the same thing. People hear me and instantly think Rocky and beg me to do "ADRIENNE!!" impressions. To which I reply "I'm not your freakin dancing monkey, alright!" before I cave and eventually comply.

During most of the day or when I'm excited or something my voice gets a little higher. But at night when I'm tired... or when talking to girls especially... I seriously turn it on and my vocal chords turn into a virtual subwoofer. It's weird if I tried to do it right now it wont sound as good. It just sounds like I'm trying to make my voice deep. But around a girls it just clicks.

As far as your problem though, I get the same thing so I can't give you the perfect answer. Nothing is worse then saying a funny line and then having to repeat it becuase they didn't hear. Like you said louder and clearer would help. But try speaking slower. Mystery preaches that speaking slower emits a sense of mystery, but it would also give your listener a longer chance to hear and understand what you're saying.

Having a deep voice has nothing to do with mumbling. You need to learn to enunciate and speak from your diaphragm.

You obviously don't have one... It's a pain in the ass and I used to have the same problem.

Basically now I have to resort to yelling (well, I feel like I'm yelling; to them it just comes off in a 'powerful' sort of way) or being more close to them when I speak.

See a speech specialist.

Exactly. Other people don't understand. It's like when someone talks too close to a microphone and it gets muffled. Deep voices resonate too much and get muffled. I've learned to smile more when I talk because it pulls my lips back and the lips are what muffles speech the most. I also concentrate on bringing my voice up an octave and speed it up. But like you said, too often I raise the volume of my voice so other will understand me, and I end up at yelling volume (but I think that may have something to do with me being Italian).

I have the same problem.

At times when its quiet people can hear me but when theres noise or if I'm at a distance, they either dont hear me at all or say what? Its really frustrating.

my friend...i am a singer...a bass singer...very low voice...on a good day i can hit C2

...ive never had this problem at all...sometimes i wondered if my voice was odd sounding...

but mumbling has nothing to do with your vocal range...

speak LOUDER and ENUNCIATE...thats all there is to it...

the deeper the voice, the easier it should be to hear and the louder it should be...
