What would you say about an Aircraft Mechanic? Usually I'm the last person anyone wants to see...I've been thinking something along the lines of "...which is tough luck for them since I'm like the coolest person they could have fixing their plane!" Is that just too cocky? I'm trying to work the CF angle.

It's not an easy job to go into DHV about, since most of the stories I can come up with usually are fairly scary to someone who doesn't understand them, I usually wind up scaring them away from ever wanting to be on an airplane again lol.

"What do I do? Well...... my job is to bring style to the area. Yeah, My goal is give this area a kick in the pants! I'm the guy you contact when you are trying to find that siiiiiiick modern sofa you have seen on online, in the magazines or on TV but had no clue where to buy it. But I dont just sell furniture, I sell a lifestyle."
This is good . . . but you're "telling" them your passion instead of demonstrating it. If you had 20 seconds for a radio spot ad, your pitch would be perfect. But if you've already opened up a set irl and the hbs are all ears for you, I'd think more towards the story/demonstration route.

Men are all about straight forward statements. I think women . . . well, they're more into the stories, especially ones where they can identify with a character in the story. You always hear women say something like, "I really identified with _____ in that movie." What they're saying is that while watching that movie, they've mentally put themselves in ______ character's shoes. Women lose themselves in stories.

So . . . I'm sure you have plenty of real stories to use but I'd think that a story about a singer in a rock band or a model who called you for a house call so that she could turn her bedroom into a rock stage or a French bed & breakfast or a Swiss Ski Chalet would spark more interest than something that sounds like a high powered job interview. Hell, even a story about some college kid who misses her bedroom at home . . . "awwwwww . . . "

Keep it quick, to the point, and demonstrate your passion. Then, you just move on to, "What would be your dream room? . . . Island resort? Lake cottage?", etc . . .

HB, "blah blah blah?"

Lifestyle Creator, "Blah blah blah right back to you." - translation = a little neg! Ha ha ha . . . Then seriously, "Hey actually, that's not so bad! We have this sofa from ______ and it would be perfect for something like that."

Lots of directions to take this routine. But it begins with identifying whether your target is a wannabe "rock star", "model", etc . . .
I appreciate the advice. I think its something that I will work on. One thing I have been saying is..

"I run a modern furniture store. I don't really sell furniture.... more like a lifestyle. When someone buys a piece from me, its like they are making a change to their life."

Hi there,

I've been a Flair Bartender, a Dueling Pianoplayer and a Club DJ.
(slightly exaggerated, but very close to the truth!).
Could anybody else mention examples of jobs that attract girls?
im in the military, and that works out pretty well. lets face it though, girls like guys who are:

badasses:
dangerous:
creative:
more importantly, financially stable:

the point is that you need to work with what youve got. chicks like guys with confidence and goals and aspirations. or straight up money. so if your not gonna get laid cause you are big and bad and live a dangerous lifestyly (to a certain extent), such as:
cops
firefighters
military
even bouncer type jobs

you can either dress it up like, "yeah im a bartender, but im in the process of opening my own bar. Its this crazy concept. you see.........." that shows that you are passionate about what you do, you set goals for yourself, and girls feel more secure with a guy whos got some job stability. it also increases your chances of having a shot.

also, i personally think there is nothing wrong with a little exaggeration. dress it up a bit, be confident and take pride in what you do.

I work for a furniture company, but I always throw that in with a "I'm doing that for money while I'm attending the Art Institute for graphic design".

I work in corporate finance...

Until now I am almost embarrassed to tell people what I do as everyone just switches off.. How do I make it sound interesting or what kind of story should I come up with?

Your work is NOT the only way to DHV. You know and I know that AFC's in Corporate Finance habitually leverage their typical higher than average salaries to gain acceptance from HB's. This is why quality HB's will shut off immediately. Alternately, this is why hookers will grab your arms.

For one thing . . . usually, only lower quality HB's pose the "what do you do?" question. If they ask, don't take it personally and just go, "Oh . . it's boring. I'm in corporate finance." Then one word, "derivatives, bonds, hedge funds, securities, etc . ." Then FINISH. Go right into adventure. Go right into fantasies that your 'higher than average income affords'.

"Hey, ever been to Singapore? They sent me on a trip there and it's like totally crazy. I expected to see _____ but it was totally like, _______. I'd love to go back for a fun holiday and not just for work. Do you like spicy food? I tried this ______ there. Far out. I gotta find a restaurant here that makes it . . . What would be your dream holiday?" etc. . . etc . . .

Yeah, I've got a pretty boring job at a big company, and I use the "it's boring" thing too. But I follow that with "but it at least lets me travel a fair bit, and the hours are good so I have time to focus on life." Kasabi hits it on the head: talk about the specifics of your job as little as possible, and transition the conversation to interesting DHV stuff that your job might let you do...

If there is one work-related thing women DO like to talk about with "boring job" people like me, it's work-life balance and how you should be working to live as opposed to the other way around, especially if they're also in boring/intense jobs. I find that this also opens the door to start talking about other interesting subjects like what you/she would rather be doing with their lives.

...doesn't matter. Just as long as you enjoy what you do and you can communicate just that. Radiate positivity.
