Magic.

Is it not just f***ing wonderful!?

Its a common factor that knowing somesort of magic/illusion , or little party trick most def will seperate you straight away from AFC's abound.

I hate even seeing an AFC who knows a little magic try to impress a girl. its a poor show. No chat, crappy patter and really really bad rapport, cause all this dude is worried about is dont fuck up the trick "dont fuck up the trick" Lather, rinse, repeat...

Whereas i KNOW, im gonna be the bomb in the club when the magic is out. EVEN if there is a proper magician in the set. Im not there to destroy him, but i will if i have to.

Anyway,

If you EVER want any tips on ANY trick/illusion or some good Psychological subtlties then gimme a shout.

Ta. - Divinity

Wear could I get some good, easy card tricks? Just recently started using magic and illusions in my sets. And by the way, I have no clue how you did it (strings perhaps?) but that floating glass trick is pretty sweet.

Thanks dude. Well your in NY?? There are a plethora of places in NY to buy some good packet tricks. (Packet tricks are card tricks that only use a few cards, great for opening a set).

Try

tannens magic put into Google (i cant post URL's yet)

think thats near you. Man, im dying to visit NY as it is so awsome to open sets there with magic, in Scotland its not so easy, I rely alot on Suggestion and Hypnosis techniques. As well as mentalism tricks.

Whatever you need bro,
just ask

Divinity, i'm also trying to lear a few simple magic tricks too, but im having a hard time to find anything on how to do them. I usually sarge at bars so if you have any info or suggestions for tricks that work there that would be sweet.

Yea, I'm not anywhere's near the city if that's what you're thinking. But after a quick google search I've picked up a few nice tricks. Floating condiment (ketchup packet people, not a rubber) inside a bottle and such. My most recent favorite is the Open Sesame card trick. Pretty simple and stuns most people.

Sure thing buddy.

Have a look at my magic stuff by clicking on the link at the foot of the post.

After im with the forum for a while i will post tutorial videos on various magic techniques.

Sarging in Bars is the way forward, although i love to open sets right left and center even day to day.

Best to learn 1 or 2 bar tricks or gags and get into it before pulling out a pack of cards. If you do, sometimes you will see people eyes roll. so, get them talking about magic, or make a small wager before you break out the big guns.

buy an "Invisible" deck and learn this combined with a psychic / cold reading routine.

for a fast coin trick buy "Coin Unique" , have a look on my Youtube site at Divinty Magic Vol 13 - Coin unique.

I've tried that one and it doesn't work... European ketchup packets must be the wrong weight (they always sink). Maybe I'll try a mayonaise packet.. Did you have to do anything special for it to work?

Oh, and what's the open sesame trick? haven't seen it on youtube.

I posted a couple tricks in another post... a-few-magic-tricks-to-pick-up-chicks-vt ... ight=magic

All I do is take a bottle of water, strip the cover, and then place a packet inside. Open sesame is an easy trick. Here's a link to it:
http://www.goodtricks.net/quicktricks.html

There are a few tricks on that page but the open sesame one is I think the last maybe, it's towards the bottom of the page anyways.

I like the fact you're looking towards magic Divinity.
But don't do Tannens. It's all quite amateurish (and even though you may be an amateur, don't aim low), try some websites instead.
www.penguinmagic.com
www.magictricks.co.uk
Also, what makes you say you're gunna be better at the magic than the magician? Granted, there are some real crap ones out there, but come on! It's their job, why are you better at it?

Sory simple. I only advised Tannens to the dude cause its in NY. I am in Scotland so dunno about US magic providers.

Im a professional magician and its what i get paid to do. Thats the only reason I said i would consider myself to be better than most AFC's knowing tricks.

The sites you advised are most definately the ones to go for online. Plus you cant beat sankeymagic for some awsome effects.

I just figured the chap meant a store to visit.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure it's his job too...

I believe his post was more pointing an amateur to a magic shop where they could buy some simple tricks.

lol, well I apologize for biting you're head off. I thought you were some guy saying that he could beat a magician at his own game.
I'm a pro too, so was about to have a rant, lol. What's your forté?

Hey its ok Bro. Well, ive been pretty run of the mill for about 10 years or so, but over the past 3 years ive totally changed direction into Mentalism, suggestion and hypnosis.

As part of my sets i do alot of cold reading anyway and was lucky enough to get a copy of "Full Facts of cold reading" from Ian Rowland, only cause i pulled him up at the last Blackpool Convention.

Ive been studying alot of Derren's stuff as well as "Slieght of Mind" by Martin Nyrup.

All good books.

Ive plastered some stuff on youtube for fun, but as you know, nothing beats getting out and gigging.

How about you? Will i have seen you or bumped into you at any piont?

Divinity - on a semi-related note, any idea where I might find a short-course on stage hypnotism in the UK? I found one two-day course in London that was about 400 pounds.. not really affordable on my backpacker wages. I might consider it, but I have no feedback to ensure it's any good.

Cheers

Dex

I doubt it. I missed the blackpool convention, and I'm fairly new to the performance.
I do close up card magic. But I love to interweave it with mentalism, and suggestion. I find the most entertaining thing for me is how many people I can convince what I do is actually magic.
I've been reading card college recently. I'm loving all of Lennart Greens stuff, and have just started Derrens absolute magic. ONE HELL OF A READ, but not for the tricks.
I have 3 main magical tutors if you will- Paul Jay- although now he's in Gambia, Keith Bennett- magical supplier, and I just spoke with Martin Taylor- the guy that inspired Derren Brown who does the most brilliant hypnosis cabaret.
I'm moving into the deeper side of magic myself now. Started with Anthony Robbins 'Ultimate Power' where you reckon I should go from there?
I was thinking about putting my ambitious card routine onto youtube myself.
