also i said, 'would you like to come out for a drink with me?' but has anyone got any more original date ideas, rather than just do what every other man does and go for a drink...

First, how have you (somewhat) set up a date if you haven't "properly" spoken to her? Second, I wouldn't put it like, "Would you like...", because that automatically gives her the option to say no. If she's agreed to go on a date with you then talking to her shouldn't be that hard, just get her on the phone and tell her something funny / interesting that happened to you in the day. Don't make it harder than it is man. As for date ideas, go bowling, play miniature golf, if y'all are into art then go to your local arts district / museum, shit like that. If you're doing something fun it will take the pressure off.

well its just been small talk really like question asking and finding out about eachother!

Just say, "Let's get together this weekend" and tell her what place / time to meet you. The less you make it sound like a date the better.
