What am I supposed to do when I come up to an attractive cashier? What kind of opener? How to engage in conversation and ask for a number, or date, or whatever? Because there IS this nice girl who works at the Barnes and Noble who I had small chitchat about the theory that the manager is either a feminist or is a dude who wants a full female workforce (only women were working there).

Plz reply to both scenarios where there is a line waiting, and when I am the only one there.
