When I have a hard time making sense of complicated or even simple things I compare it to something I already know about like in the movie "Road Trip" one of the guys has to take an exam but has no idea how to understand it I think it was about Greek gods and which had more power over the other but one of his friends taught him by comparing the greek gods to wrestlers because he was more familiar with that. i do the same with pick up I compare it with something I already understand.

too make it easy for me i think about it as colleges and being accepted or being rejected. Most everyone wants to go to go to college but who wants to go to a bad college? (this is where value comes in :) its easier to ignore the bad colleges because of its low value=low value males. A high value college always evaluates their applicants.(screening or qualification) at the same time if the applicant does not meet standards the college will reject them and consider other applicants.(willingness to walk away).this makes the student want to work hard to meet standards :) See where i'm getting at with this.

I was just wondering if you guys found this helpful and for those who already do this sort of thing what are your ways of understanding pickup?

I'm a musician and I see and understand pickup the same way I understand the art of music.

I've performed on stage before and I've run sets before. It's the same thing. I'm expressing myself and basically performing to make the crowd FEEL something. A good applause is a number-close or a kiss-close. A standing ovation is a full-close. Getting booed off stage is like getting blown out.

Using other people's canned routines is like playing a cover song, and playing your original music is like using your own routines true from your own life. The performance is more passionate with the touch of originality.

I used to do a bunch of drama classes in highschool, so I always relate it to running the crowd when you're doing improv acting. I pretty much see the people in sets as other actors and no one has lines, so we all just wing it.

You start off in a direction that your partner just isn't getting, or isn't making them laugh or whatever you're intending, so you alter it and go off in a different direction till something hooks, then you build from there. You can keep branching off and if something flounders, then you've got other threads that you've already started that you can go back to. Makes multi-threading totally natural.
