However, the issue I struggle with is which ones best open a set- in the past I've been using the question answers, allowing me to continue that conversation with a 'reason why i'm asking', allowing me to get into the set.
I understand that there are other forms of openers, like observational openers and the more bold ones that compliment the target, but how do these work best? After complimenting the target, essentially giving them an indication of your intent, or making an observation on the type of music in the bar, e.g, how do you continue the conversation without sending out IOIs all over the place??
