After reading "The Game", I've tried applying the concepts from it in the field. Unfortunately, even when I successfully open a set, I fail to go anywhere afterwards. This creates an awkward moment both for me and the target. I was never good with smalltalk, and aside from the usual boring "where are you from?", "what's your job?" I know very little about keeping the target engaged talking about absolutely nothing, I've read about Style's hooking technique, but what if the target just nods or gives a generic response to the opener?

In "The Game" Neil recommended several books for developing a sense of humor, yet I haven't seen anything regarding smalltalk, and I feel like I could really benefit from it. Being an engineer I'm a bit out of touch with the typical conversation topics, and I'm not sure where to start bridging this gap.

Well for one start on conversations Avoid Firing off questions women hate that and the best thing to do is to Listen to her ask her one good question and she will be talking alll night long But a good conversation will die soon so end it before it does Gratci...!!!

ask questions, let her talk. Then when she's talking, try to think up something or just listen and respond, act enthusiastic
