Hey all,

Maybe this is a dumb question... but: how can I actually get to do some magic tricks? I have taught myself a couple of card tricks and am learning more, but I always feel like a bit of a dork whenever I try to bring them out. Kind of a "hey, why don't I try and impress you by doing some magic tricks" type thing. I can't quite figure out how to weave them naturally into the progression of any conversation or interaction. Any thoughts anyone??

I actaully use the classic 1-4 & 1-10 esp trick often and it usually doesnt seem like im just trying to impress them. This is how I do it:

I usually use it as a follow up, never an opener.

after I open, I will say something like, "hey, while I have you here, my friend just showed me this trick were I can guess what number your thinking of. Do you mind if I try it on you" the HB will usually say somehitng like "umm, sure" and ill say "ok, now I just learned this yesterday, so it might not work" (that way if I fuck it up, its no biggie). I will follow by doing the trick. When I get both number right, the HBs are usually hella into it (although there have been a couple times were they think the trick is too simple and dont like it). I have had HBs call me like a day or two after, just to try to get me to tell them how I did it. Despite how simple and common the trick is, its been quiet effective.

what im saying is, I never try to act like I know magic and want to show them. I try to sqeeze the trick in very casually. As if I just remembered it at the momment.

Awesome, thanks Zeus. I remember hearing about, maybe I read the 1-4/1-10 esp tricks but I can't remember the details. Are they explained in a post that you have near to hand on this board or something similar? Thanks!!

If you dont feel comfortable already doing it, why do it at all?

I know we are supposed to be breaking out of comfort zones, but some things I find silly. Like a person randomly carrying around some cards for the purpose of magic.

all you really need to do is be talking to an hb [in this case who is wearing a ring] and say-- hey can i see that for a second-- check this out!

The best time i have seen magic tricks used is in a social day setting. My friends and I were hanging out on campus and one the guys, already playing solitare or sumthin started to bust out some tricks. Pretty soon everyone was focused in on him. It really works well on mixed sets becuase the guys will start to like you, because face it, who the fck doesnt like magic...

i dont know if you smoke but ive been learning tricks with cigarettes and they are awesome i learned this other awesom trick where i can get smoke to come out of my fingers

most of them are pretty good, dont know if u have a zippo but i know a fair amount of them aswell and there just fun to play around with the girl aswell throw in a bit of c&f...

Hey =) I'm rubbish at picking anyone up... but I can do magic tricks (lol! That sounded so gay!!!! My God!). Anyway... stay away from cards. You don't want to be bringing them out when like it's loud and there's drink everywhere... there's too much to worry about. Stick to stuff thats around. Stop your pulse... that's always impressive. And there a version where you can get them to get put their head against your chest and they start to hear it. Then it stops. =o! Is that kino? I think it is... but then again I just learnt what that meant so haha I'm probably wrong. Bending spoons are good as well. A great one to do to pick girls up would be (this is theory by the way... I've never tried so I wouldn't know but the idea is really sexy =P) to get your target to hold out their hand and close their eyes. Then you do Derren Brown's invisible touch. I don't know if I should post the method here cause like... it's not fair to the creator haha. But if you go into any magic store and ask them for the method you can probably buy it for like 25. It could be so sexy if you like pimp up the trick a little. In theory. I wouldn't know hahaha.

Yeah, good point, I guess card tricks are fun but the point is to do it with stuff that's already around, rather than to be a bit dorky and look like you were planning on showing off your mad magic skillz... I'll check out that bartricks site and see what I can find elsewhere as well. This is awesome, thanks for your help everyone

Lol! Thats a very valid point. But I might get arrested by the magic police =P. God that joke was a disaster haha. Can't tell you... but I will throw in something I just came up with 2 seconds ago. We all know the number 1-10, 1-4 thing. It's great but with a set (using PUA talk now... I'm learning =P) you've got more than one person. Thats good and bad for magic. It's bad because there might be a tool that busts your trick. It's good as well because you can try this.

Be like 'How well do you guys know each other?'
'Wow, because I noticed you guys sort of move the same. Thats pretty common with good friends... actually lets try something!'
'You... think of a number from 1 to 10. The first one that pops into your head.' (then you turn to her friend and go) 'What number is she thinking of?'

8/10 times her friend will guess correctly. This is because most people choose 7 so when asked to think of the first number that pops into their head... they'll probably go 7. If you fluff it out a little more then that would probably be a pretty solid trick. You will want to make that a little better by the way. If you say it like that... it'll be pathetic. Throw in some showmanship

Dude i know how the trick works and i agree with sinch that its a great DHV for picking up women. it involves a little bit of kino and the interaction between a two set is remarkable.

and yep. the ethics of magic still applies in the PUA world. even style is discreet when it comes to SPAM "magic tricks".

BUT, with a little bit of perseverance i know that anybody can find how its done in the web (you can find almost everything in the internet nowadays). lol

watch derren brown do it; search "invisible touch derren brown" in youtube.

ye but uve seen them show all of david blaines stuff on the net, i searched it on youtube and saw him with the strippers doing it but it makes no sense, is there a certain way to do it or do u just feel touching when u close your eyes and u wave ur hands over their arms??

He's right, the pulse stopping one is easy - I did a google on it, watched a couple of vids and got it right second time (just taking my own pulse). There are some technique parts of it I'd want to finesse, but those'll come with time/thought

I think tricks with cards are too much. It seems unrealistic to pull out a deck of cards to be honest. Just learn some other tricks I guess.
