Hey guys, before this movie came out i had heard about the MIT student its based on, who from my understanding wrote a book on card counting. Anyone know this guys name or what the book is called?

Hey Buddy it was called, "Bringing Down the House." It's actually a really good read from what I understand. I saw a Discovery Channel thing on this when the book came out. By the way the movie was good!!!

Were you wanting the book about the movie? Or the book on how to count cards? Bringing Down the House was not written by they guy that the movie is based about. I heard an interview with the author..... pretty entertaining.

Kinda funny that the guys from MIT are not allowed within 21 feet of a black jack table in Vegas.

Im teaching myself to count, i heard the guy the movie is based on put a book out.

Bringing down the House was the book that inspired the movie. They had to change the name cause of the Queen Latifah movie with the same name. there are several books on how to count cards... its really hard and gets harder depending on how many decks are in a shoe. (im sure you know this already) anyway....

black jack is the only "fair" game in the casino. if you are doing it to learn blackjack then i also suggest learning a betting style..... when i play, i play a "2,1,2,3,4,5,6" betting style... you are playing to hit the streak...


I always be double the minimum, assuming im going to win the hand. If i win, i bet the minimum. If i win again i double it, than triple it, until i hit six and then start all over after 6. Always restart after you lose. Its pretty solid, my uncle taught me, but he is a card counter... Black Jack is his hobby... nice to be an accountant i guess....

Yes hobbit your right for most cases, the counting is very simple and requires basic math only in most methods, the hard part is removing emotion, and maintaining concentration with all the distractions.

Most information has told me its as important if not more so to be able to count while seeming like a normal person. While not illegal they can ask you leave (in vegas), while they also have other ways of countering a card counter.

Also my understanding was that its actually easier with more decks (as the count can potentially get higher), but im only days into this i am propably wrong.

I do intend on using this for BJ and am currently working on the very basics of counting but more so on basic theory and strategy without counting.

A large part of winning with counting is that you bet high when your chances of winning are statisticlly better and lower your bet when chances are lower. This seems obvious but some people think counting is a sure fire way of winning and its not unless you execute other strategies well.

And for anyone who plays well or just woul like to play for kicks im always willing to spend a few mins on yahoo to practise...just PM me and we can trade SN's and setup a date/time.

Well when you are counting the cards in one deck and you see the Ace of spades, you instantly know that its already been used. But when there is 7 decks in a shoe and you see the ace of spades 3 times you know that there are still 4 more in there. The problem is when and where are they going to come out. Plus the dealer puts the cut card into one spot. So it cuts up the deck..... Plus there are 51 other cards you have to count and keep up with as well.... i really dont know how to count cards, but if you get good at it you will be able to base your bets on the probability of when you are going to hit 21. With blackjack the dealer is going to win at least 51% of the time. Thats just the way it is.

I was at Ceasars a few years back.... in 45 minutes i was down $400 playing the $10 table and my 2,1,2 betting style. 3 hours later I was up at one point $1000 playing the same style. black Jack is fun, but gets really expensive quick if you are not careful.... i quit going to the casinos... too many ups and downs.

Yea some of the info i read said to take a bankroll with you 100 times what the minimum bet is...so if min bet is 10, take 1g.

With the easiest systems for counting you dont track the types of cards, thats called side counting....some of the harder systems include special values for certain cards in excess of the easier system and may include side counting.

With the help of others im working on making a basic program to help train the mind to count quickly in intravals of 0,1,-1....it sounds like it should be cake, but it gets most confusing when in your in the negatives and adding becomes subtraction and subtraction becomes addition.

Its gonna take me a while to get good at this...but im hope that i at least just have fun doing it.

The movie was pretty good, but I've heard the book is extremely good. I was in Vegas a week before I saw it and it made me want to go back ASAP!
