absolute gold.
used this 3 times on saturday night...
the brilliance of this soundtrack routine is that you dont even need to follow the pop scene, you can just neg her anyway, especially if the name of the song is lame. the idea of asking what the movie will be about is awesome too and worked better than i thought it would...
convo from saturday night, more or less as it happened:
me: tell me, if there was a movie made about your life, which song would be playing in the opening credits?
her: i think i'd pick "lovebirds" by (some random artist who's name i cant remember)
me: aww, thats so cute... and lame... (heavy on the c&f)
her: hey! *hits my arm* it's not lame! *laughing*
me: so, what, your movie is going to be a romantic comedy, probably involving some heartbreak and then you end up living happily ever after, married to (insert random celeb)?
her: yeah!
me: ok, in that case i'd say "lovebirds" would be perfect for your movie... straight to DVD
her: you're so mean! ok then, what would you have as your intro song?
me: probably "are you ready" by ac/dc, it sets the right tone. i mean, the first line is "are you ready for a good time?" (again, heavy c&f)
her: you're so vain!
me: said the person who thinks she's going to marry (random celeb used earlier)
her: ok! fair enough! *places her hand on my chest for a second*
me: hmm, i'm empty. you get this round, i'll get the next.
her: ok!
done deal
i also used it in a bit of a role playing type of thing where after i asked the girl what happens in her movie, i went on to describe a little short indie film starring the 2 of us... she's a drama student so the role playing thing worked really well, dont know how other girls will respond to the role playing though.
