Hi there

I had this happen to me on Saturday and really wasn’t prepared or sure how to play this.

Basically i went out to have some fun with my friends and decided that I would dress a little more stand outfit than normal. I basically choose to wear a Hat I had bought to try pea cocking etc.

Well it worked and maybe a little to well. Over the night I had 4 sets open me by saying how they liked my Hat and one said they though i had great style but that left me kind of not sure what to do next but the obligatory thanks it kind of caught me off guard generally sets i approached when ok but those that opened me didn't go so well.

One in particular a HB9 got up and started dancing with me and was clearly trying to get my attention but then once again that left me unsure what to do back never been a great dancer I just have fun doing it but don't have the rhyme to dance with people very well.

Any advice tips etc.

Thanks

Raven

This sounds like your first experience with peacock-ing. It can be a bit of a shocker if you're not used to it. Here's the general rule I like to follow if I'm doing something out of the ordinary or engaging in peacock-ing:

Have a dedicated follow-through for each item!

Sounds simple enough, and it actually is much easier than you think. With your example, all you would need is a story about why you have that hat and BAM!, you're building rapport with a neutral topic and setting the stage for patterning.

As for the HB9, you could have had quite a lot of fun with her. When you noticed that she was dancing and trying to get your attention, you should have jumped in immediately. But, instead of dancing and doing what every other guy tried before you, you should have asked her to try on your hat.

Then, when she's got it on, take a step back, squint a little, and then take it off like you changed your mind. You can even throw in a neg, CF line, or even something simple like "I like it better on me".

This teases her a little bit, demonstrates a little value because you're not like everyone else, and it gives you the perfect set up to tell your story about the hat from earlier.

Long story short. When peacock-ing, always prepare a line, routine, or pattern that's dedicated to handle all the extra attention you're bound to receive. Hope this helps
