OK so school started yesterday and this is my second year in Mechanical Engineering but the main problem with my campus compared to the other campuses is the our guy:girl ratio is about 105:1 (give or take) so slim pickins .

Today, I had 2 separate occasions where I could have at least number closed a girl but I had no idea how to open them!!

The first girl is a first year student (I didnt see her last year) and she was sitting in the caf alone at a fairly large table just nervously looking around. I was at the table next to her with some of my classmates and I caught her eye a few times but never a long duration. She would usually look away a few seconds after we made eye contact.

The second was on the bus home, we were on a really REALLY full bus and she was about 3 people away from me but we both could see each other clearly. And again, eye contact and thats it. She at least held eye contact for a few seconds but I was too far away to say anything, plus I had no idea how I would open her.

These "missed connections" happen to me quite a bit but these two really stumped me.

Any ideas on how I couldve handled either situation?

you could see the eye contact as an IOI, next time during breaks wait for her to make eye contact with you. and just aproach her, dont think too much about what you're gonna say to her, just make sure you dont ask too many questions. itll be like an intervieuw. instead make a statement about her answers on your question so you'll have a conversation. good luck:)
