One of my problems (yes, it's a list, and yes, we're still on page 1) is that I can never guess the age of a girl to within 5 years. This can be problematic as I can look at a girl and think that I'm not going to hit on her because she's too young when it turns out that she's not. The problem goes the other way too; I've got numbers from girls who were under 18.

I really struggle to tell the difference between, say, a girl who's 17 and another who's 21. Is there some trick that I'm missing, or is the best advice to just talk and go from there?

I always used to assume that a girl who went to bars was over 18 then I remembered that I was in bars before I was 18 as were most of my friends. I was reminded of this when I hit on a girl in a bar who, it turned out, was 17!

I agree with tasty in the sense that you don't need to be super stressed about it right off the bat. Just figure it out as you talk to her a little bit.

The best way in my opinion to figure it out is by bringing up the "what do you do" topic. If she's a student ask where, if she lists a university/college your probably cool. If she tells you a highschool...... your looking very iffy. Also works if she tells you a job, if she's tells you a regular fulltime type of job your probably good. If she says she works part time at McDonalds, you might want to ask if she does anything else like go to school.

Try that out, it should help you gauge it.

We really get worse end of this situation. A girl could straight out lie to you about her age, even show you a fake id as proof, and if you fuck her and she's underage, you go to jail and become a sex offender.

I heard a story where a 16 year old boy gets a 15 year old girl pregnant, and when she goes to the doctor, the boy gets arrested for sex with a minor, even though he himself was a minor at the time.
I heard another story where a 17 year old signs up for porn with a fake id and gets all kinds of people arrested for statutory rape and child porn charges.
I heard another story where a 12 year old run away passes herself off as 18 and got a job at a strip club for 2 week until the police found out, and gets the bar shut down.

Women love to pretend to be older, so don't always trust what they say their age is, use some common sense and discretion and good luck.

Show her your drivers license say "hey check this out, i look like an axe murderer haha. I took a look at my friends and she looked like a crack whore in her drivers license." "hahaha yeah, lemme see yours, lets see what you look like."

If she hesitates and looks to the side shes talking to herself and hiding something. If she does show you check out her birthdate. If she doesnt have any, shes probably underage.

Tell "accidentally" that your friend gave you a 50% coupon any electronic item at best buy for costumers younger than 18, but noone you know is that young.

if she gets the catch then you might be able to get your answer or if she dosen't just play it off like nothing happened and use THE DOCTOR post above^^ as tips

What matters is, she'll probably get the tip and qualify to you, and you can keep teasing about it, use it for a later playful reference after a k or f-close, neg her about childish behaviour , or DHV about how you like children, or establish a connection talking about it..
