When the conversation dies after the opener- this is a newbie mistake.
The opener (contrary to what people say on this forum) is only 3% of the overal interaction and only last between 2-5 minutes max (if you time yourself you'll see that what felt like 10mins was only 2 minutes). Also in any good method out there- it should be systematic. Each system or art, has a flow struture with multiple steps which are tried and tested. Each step serves a purpose that benefits both the female target and yourself and helps the interaction.
If you did a good approach- importance being on posture, body language, voice tonality, confidence, equal or higher social energy, gestures etc then what you say does not matter. I have opened with the RSD Matt Damon from Team America World Police. Walk up and say "Matt-Daaaammmoooonnnnn!" As long as it is not you look sexy, or can I buy you a drink thats fine.
I wouldnt recommend you doing mulltiple openers within set. Because a) why are you trying to re-invent the wheel? and b) you will not get rapport this way. If the coversation dies you simply haven't hooked a conversation.
Once you've hooked a conversation and are in rapport- you can extend the conversation to 20 minutes. After 20 minutes if there an attraction coming from the female, transition to more personal topic, "So what did you want to be when you were growing up?" "What magic powers would you possess?" etc
