Well if you want self-respect and self-confidence then you would need to work on your inner game. I highly suggest David DeAngelo's material for that (Double your Dating, Being a Man, etc..). Some NLP might help you too, to help disconstruct whatever beliefs are holding you back.

You might also want to improve your lifestyle to feel better about yourself. Get a new haircut, new clothes, new projects going on for you.

Oh, and I didn't get much background from your post, but if this is a BIG issue with you, if you can't seem to find the answers on your own, or if it's too painfull for you, there is nothing wrong in contacting a psychologist to help you out with these issues. They are trained to help you with this sort of stuff.
