Went to a University hosted speed datine event last night (yeah I know that's an AFC thing to do.) Everyone was sitting in tables of four, with 2 guys and 2 girls each. The competition is pretty fierce (all the ugly people were too scared to come), so although I'm somewhat attractive (prolly a 7; I'm 6'4 and have no fatal flaws) I'd have to say most of the guys had an edge over me. Anyway, about halfway through I get paired with:
Chinaman: Sharply dressed but I knew the accent was going to alienate him.
HB ??: I don't remember a damn thing about this chick. She wasn't important.
Target: HB 8. Her face is a 5 but the rest of her body is a solid 9. (Good candidate for brown-bagging!
) She's from Cameroon and has French accent.
Now I should point out that me and the target have known each other. We went to the same high school, and have some mutual friends. But we've never been particularly close.
Target: Hey! I haven't seen you in a while.
Me: Don't you have a boyfriend?
Target: Um (looking at her hands)....yeah
Me: Well then why are you cheating on him?
Target: ....Don't tell him, okay?
Me: Okay Target, we'll keep this our secret.
Chinaman: Hello, my name is Chinese Guy, and you are (pointing to me)
Me: I'm Klasik.
Chinaman: (To Target and HB ??) and this is my friend Klasik.
I guess Chinaman was trying to increase his value by citing me as social proof. Whatever. Target proceeded to interview me, so Chinaman had stick with HB ??. At this point I began to wonder if target was speed dating for fun if she was boyfriend shopping. I managed to fit in some brief hand and cheek kino before our time was up.
Like I said we'd talked to each other a couple times in the past year (now that I think about it, she's always been the one to initiate conversation) and she's never mentioned her boyfriend before I (stupidly) brought it up. Target's boyfriend (as I learned from FB) is also an African immigrant. He doesn't seem to be very social though, as I can't find any pictures of him (he doesn't even have a profile picture).
So from my assessment there are two possiblities:
A) Target is an attention whore with a satisfying relationship.
B) Target enjoys the security of a beta boyfriend, but is looking for an upgrade.
Frankly, I wouldn't mind being her side dish if that's what it came to. Any suggestions on how to test the waters?
P.S. I'm white, she's black, and 80% of her friends are black. Don't know if that makes a difference.
