I was out sarging a few nights ago at a bar in MD/DC area. I ran into a few friends there and in that same group I selected a target... A very petite 8.5 asian. I didn't need too much of an opener because I was good friends with one of the guys in the group. I immediately started getting to know the rest of the group, paying close attention to the target's two NUFFs (necessary ugly fat friends). It didn't take much to disarm everybody. DHV was also easy--I told them I had just gotten back from Iraq (true) and only staying in the area for a few weeks (also true). And I started telling some funny war stories. During this time, I had mostly ignored the target and consistently negged her (i.e. She says something to me, I stop and say "I'm so sorry, what was your name again?" while seemingly never having a problem remembering her friends names) After a little bit of this, I announced to the group that I was going outside to smoke and who would like to join me. The target (we'll call her Ana) immediately volunteers. While we're outside, I told her some observations I had about the differences between guys and girls (personality-wise) and then I did a cold-reading based on the brand of cigarettes she smoked (parliaments)... That was a success---At this point while we were alone I should have gone for a K-close, hindsight is 20/20 though. We went back inside. Finally when we were ready to leave, while we were all gathered in the parking lot, Ana asked me for my number so we could hang out later. I opened my mouth to give it to her, but at that point one of her NUFF's jumped in and said, "Excuse me, she has a boyfriend." (And by jumped in, I mean literally, jumped right between us.) I said, "So?" NUFF says, "She's drunk, I'm taking her home." (Which she really wasn't) Ana, looks at me helplessly and shrugs and then gets in the car and leaves. Obviously I should have gone for a close earlier that evening. But in this situation, how do I disarm the overprotective friend, any ideas?

Advice will be much appreciated...

Well I did do that, it didn't help. Oh and this NUFF came out of left field, I hadn't been getting any animosity from her at all that night.

"That's cool and I respect that, but we can still hang out, can't we?"
