First of all, your so-called comeback wasn't exactly what I'd call smart. It was pretty much just random and didn't really make sense. How is commenting on her shoes random anyway? I'd have told her if she thought that was random she mustn't get out much. Now that is being a smartass.

Secondly, if you're worried about being a 'dick' I'd suggest looking into C&F - remember though, it's an attitude and not a set of lines. Read up on it to gain an understanding of why it works, and bear in mind you can go overboard with it. Make sure to keep a balance between being cocky and having normal conversation.
