Well first of all, I'm not an expert, so take notice of the ideas you like, and give constructive criticism to the ideas you don't like.
hm, I understand, and yes, I believe that picking up in College is way!! different than in a "normal" environment; in my opinion the approach should NOT be as direct, the process IS longer (no same day lays, although possible, because remember you are going to see her all semester long). So bear with me, Lets go back to the basics.
1) Be cool (confident, lay back, don't try to rush talking to girls, you know be your own person and do what you want!)
- The reason for this is because it will show a high value that is attractive (aka your time is more important to you than her time) and it also doesn't convert you into a needy wuss. Plus you have an advantage, you are going to have your sweet time to actually meet her. But don't wait until too long, I'd say couple of weeks without talking to her it's ok. But don't wait 3 months, you know?
2) Be alert of your environment (look for opportunities in which you can easily talk to the girl you wanna talk that seem natural, and doesn't make it seem like you are trying to hard) Once you find that window, take action: 3s rule, don't think about it, go, say hi! I might be a little lucky, I usually take action really quickly when I don't have anything to say I speak in Spanish (originally I am Spanish) and their faces light up, then I "translate" and say, hmm too bad you don't speak Spanish; point is you have to do something, anything better than nothing when you get that window.
- You can be C&F, or any other approach. I find that it usually works when you talk to her like you know her, and are buddies. (e.g. "geez, luis, that professor must think that we have no lives to make us do this... but I got an idea, you do my work, I'll give you a price.")
3)Get her name, ask her even if you know it already, that way you seem unattached, exchange info (e-mail's, cell, etc) "because how are you supposed to get your homework if she doesn't send you an e-mail" also ask her to find you in Facebook with just your name (you might have to explain what kind of picture you have) and if she finds you quick (within a day or two) that's a good signal.
- This is good, because after talking to her getting her info means she doesn't think you are a psycho killer, nerd, or a wuss bag. She might even be interested in you. Get the info quick though, set your pace, after talking to her a couple of times, maximum three in my opinion would be a good idea to get the phone number.
4)Escalate my friend, text message her, call her, and hang out with her, party if you must. Avoid talking about the class you actually go, so that she sees that you have more to offer and have more in common than one class in college.
Good quotes/ideas to start the conversation going:
- Hmm I see you working that pen... I was a bit distracted in class, let me burrow your notes. (you can introduce yourself before/after saying this)
- First day/week of classes
you: Hey, I pick you!
her: what?
you: I pick you!, you know for group projects... it seems like you are smarty pants, and I'll even let you pick the rest members of our group.
(and it doesn't really matter what she says after, most of the time it will be positive, unless the girl is a douche, in which case why even talk to her in the future)
- Hi, Let me burrow a pen ... (nag her if she doesn't have one, or ask for a better pen if she does have one) and then give it back at the end and ask... by the way what is your name "pen lady"?
I'm pretty sure, you can find many more! be creative have fun, but you know be cool, not a wuss.

Also, Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!
-Talking to her during lecture, or even looking at her during lecture.
Nothing more annoying for anybody, than trying to concentrate and take notes and somebody comes and starts a random conversation. TALKING SHOULD ONLY BE BRIEF AND DONE before class starts, brakes, after class, and in group. this is why is vital to get the information.
-Understand that you'll have plenty of time to talk to that person outside class. Pace your self as if you are running 5 miles, but don't go too slow. So Don't rush it! (like you would sometimes would have to do in regular pick ups)
-If you indeed end up hooking up with somebody, don't mention it to ANYBODY, SAY NOTHING, specially if you don't want to enter in a relationship, or if you want to have sex with them. You wouldn't want to make it a mystery, but don't brag about it either. Bragging will only hurt you, and frustrate you if you want to hook up with more babes. Don't even say it to your best buddy that goes to your same school, and knows all your friends... OK?
now go out there! and make it happen.
