Just curious. Can you get away with not using it? Or does it depend on the circumstances?

If everything were to go perfectly fine then you wouldn't need a time constraint. But if something goes wrong simply have a great way to pull out without losing confidence. Also it is a reassurance to the girl that if she finds you annoying that you won't stay very long, this reassurance allows a girl to be more open I think.
