Well most cops feel better with back up, then sometimes the back up isn't there. Then you have the cops who 'don't like partners' the 'I work alone types'. Now is any of this related to how to learn to work alone, Not really. So feel free to ignore it while trying to figure out why I wasted effort typing.
Now on with the real stuff;
Naturally when you aren't as experienced you feel more comfortable in numbers. Here comes that bit of relating it all back to our ancient enviroment that we all know and love. Men used to hunt in packs, when there was just big sticks and rocks , it was all about numbers. Its wired into us that we feel safer with atleast one other person. So thats why you feel it, so I'll throw two routes at you to give you away of becoming a solo sarger when a wing isnt available.
The first either just works or it doesn't. You know why you feel more AA on your own without back up, and you know its only natural. Knowing that, you accept you should feel this way and just plunge in as a solo. Just like when getting into cold water, it's most effective to just jump in. After that initial shock its easier.
Another way; when you go out with a wing, instruct him to only enter once you have opened, so you know you can open on your own. Then other times get him to come in with you then either isolate his target or just eject so that you are left with the group. It won't feel as hard as he will have been there in the start. Once this is done a few times, you should realise that you can open without him and continue after the opener without him. So far you have only done it seperately , now it shouldn't seem such a big deal to combine the two and do the whole thing solo.
