so i just tell u what i did yesterday...

i was in starbucks with a couple of friends and two girls (1 HB 8.5) sat just behind us. after two mins i went there and tried with the Style approach, the HB was at the phone in the meanwhile, whit low tone voice+eye contact i said:
"can i ask u a question? just two mins, i need a female option. how would u feel going out with a guy who's still friend with his ex-gf?"
she looked me back:
"well, a bit weird...dunno if i'd like it!"
in the meanwhile the HB joins us and i explain her with strong eye contact and she replies the same, so i added
"cause, u know, a friend of mine is in this situation and i don't know how to tell him (and add what the girls just told me)"
they just said to be direct and tell him
then i asked their name and where are they from and then....blocked, i didn't know what to say anymore!!!
i would have asked them how long they have been friend and try the trick of "do u use the same hair shampoo?" and see their eye movements + some other stuff...but on the moment i got stuck, didn't know how to do transition!
...so, shame on me, i just said "ok tnks, have a good day"...and left with my friends
....and i'v seen them looking at me while i was leaving and giggling as if they were waiting for more...

....so, after this...how can i get un-stuck in these situations??

That just seems like a sticking point. I'm sure with more experience you'll easily get over that and to the next level!

This probably was a one time thing unless its an anxiety issue. Just be on your feet, and also you may be too focused on eye contact that you forget to listen and go with the flow of of the convo

mmm you started off nicely. I think in this situation just go with the flow, say something like "oh well looks like I will need to tell him that his gf will not like it 1 bit, thanks your opinion it has helped me out... by the way im ____ nice to meet u girls *shake hands*, so were are u girls from, what are u girls doing out n about? etc.. just start talking

Sometimes I freeze while talking to a girl and all I think in my head is "walk away now before you make urself look like a cockhead" but dont listen to yourself just keep on talking about anything!

Keep it up, that was a great attempt.
Sarge more and more, and it will come more natural.
Try not to rely on canned material, use your surrounding if u can.
