Does a girl necessarily need to text you first to demonstrate that she's into you?

I know this girl who is very sweet and she's good about texting me back when she's around. If she's not around she always answers later. We talk about a lot of personal things. We both already know a lot of secrets about each other.

But, she never really contacts me, I always need to initiate with her. She always answers my texts, though, and is always very sweet. She laughs at my jokes. When I've had a bad day she gives me encouragement.

I dunno. She just strikes me as kind of shy and introverted. I know she has OCD and anxious depression or something. This is great, actually, because I'm on a ton of meds and I like the fact that I don't need to keep this a secret from her.

I've tried to play hard to get and it can go for days or weeks with no response but then as soon as I contact her with a joke or something she really wants to talk to me and I have to usually pull myself away from the conversation.

She's extremely feminine and maybe just doesn't want to seem too forward.

Should I just accept that I'm the one who is going to need to make things happen in this situation?

A lot of dating guides say that if a girl doesn't initiate it means she's not into you.
