what do the "votes" thing mean?

votes: 2

or something like that? whats that for??

It's basically their so that you can check on the validity of peoples opinions, so that if you need advice and have two conflicting sources of information you can diserne which is the better choice.

Also to allow newbies to figure out who is who so to speak.

mm sorta...
basically if someone likes something that someone else posts, they can give them some of their rep points.. showing appreciation/admiration for good posts...
the opposite is true too-- if someone is a jerk/give bad advice -- you can give negative points
just keep in mind that whatever points you give get taken from ur own rep
