I live in Taiwan, and the girls here are generally very shy, inexperienced, conservative, introverted, and frankly, nervous as hell about speaking English, even if their English is great, without exception, they all believe "my English is sucks." Add to that, the fact that without doubt, they have never, ever been approached by a stranger out of the blue during the middle of the day before, and what you get is a generally very nervous, possibly even frightened girl, defaulting into flight mode from the first moment.

Any tips on how I can adjust my game to approach this kind of girl in a better way that will make them more comfortable and buy me some time to get them interested?

Lots of smiling and being friendly. Simple as that.

My experience from nearby Japan is: never approach directly, and be humble. Be more of a Mr. Nice Guy than a Mr. Assertive. Foreigners have in Asia this label of heartless playboys many girls are weary of.
And while you're there make a f#cking effort to learn the language.

Also, why not go to bars? I found it way easier to pick up girls there than in the streets.
