In the long run, natural game is a million times better. However, training wheels exist for a reason!
Don't go crazy with the canned material by memorizing routine stacks and entire scripts and whatnot. Use a variety of lines here and there to observe what kind of material jives best with your personality.
Ultimately, you're going to want to do everything in your own style.
To put it another way, think about a different kind of artist like a musician.
I learned guitar, and in the beginning I learned a lot of simple cover songs. Through those cover songs, I learned how to use and apply certain techniques like bending, hammer-ons, pull-offs, etc.
That only took me so far, though.
My guitar teacher drilled me to learn all of the SCALES, which built up my fundamentals. Since I had practice with cover songs, I'm familiar with basic song structures and whatnot. Now that I'm familiar with scales, I can write my own songs.
Focus on the fundamentals, not the magic scripts.
100%agree.
If you have the fear that girls will catch you using material, don't worry. The community is underground. The VH1 show was years ago and it was not popular with girls. Plus, most guys into PU, don't approach. So the chance of being caught is super super low.
