Aren't routines and canned openers getting unoriginal?

Okay guys I have come to the point that I really want to take this PUA stuff seriously. I'm getting tired of half-assing this, only talking to girls at night when I'm tipsy and failing almost always. So I want to start by reading one of these books, I've heard that The Game is a good one to start with.

One question I have is about these routines (magic tricks, palm reading, that kind of bullshit) and canned openers/negs (i personally hate those opinion openers, they're so fake): Aren't these concepts now so well known by everyone that they've lost their effectiveness? Maybe a couple of years ago, when you did one of those canned openers, it was still original and the girl might be pleasantly surprised and interested. But nowadays, I've heard friends use them, and I'm sure he's not the only one. The girl will probably think: "Oh my god, not one of these idiots again.. Does he really not have the guts to start a conversation in a normal way?" Because that's what I tend to think honestly.

I could be wrong though, I'm a bafc, so what do I know?

Soaking in as much RSD material as I could from YouTube was where I started, and it seems to have changed my life. So that is my recommendation. RSDtyler has some videos on hard case newbies. Search those. "The game" is really a story more than an instructional book. Not much practical learning to be had.

DO approaches! Even if you are scared. Even if you suck.

Thanks for the reply. RSD is real social dynamics (just looked it up), but what does it mean? I actually have a real social dynamics video (by julien manifesto) favorited on my youtube account but never watched the whole thing.

And about The Game: I know how it's written, but don't you think I can still learn something valuable from it? Aren't it lessons hidden in the form of a story? Because I'm pretty good at learning from books, and I think a general guideline from a book would be really nice to hold onto and give me a sense of security.
Any better book to recommend than The Game? Or do you really think videos are the way to go? (I guess it's easier to watch a youtube video than to read an entire book)

Others here may disagree with me, as canned material is responsible for a good deal of success here, but IMHO - you should get away from any kind of canned material and openers as soon as you can (I understand that you may have to start with some to get out there and get over the AA - it does help to have something scripted to say and do - no argument there...)

It's common shit these days - PUA isn't as hidden as it once was... A lot of girls have been approached with this type of stuff before. They know the material, and you'll just get laughed at.

An alternative might be to come up with your own spin on some openers... but as you get over AA, you'll quickly learn it doesn't really even matter what you open with - literally - you can walk up to them and practically say jibberish, as long as you do it with a smile and don't look creepy (and as long as your next sentence makes sense).

There's two ways to look at canned material:

1. Stuff you read in a book from 2003 and say to girls on the street.

2. Stuff you come up with, whether its with the guidance of written material or that you come up with on the fly, remember that it works, and you keep it in mind.

I spent four nights last week using the same opener at bars: "Whoa (pause for her attention), I have that exact same top/dress at home. You have good taste." It gets a quick laugh and then I go into other things. Hell, even if I ever got "called out" for it, I wouldn't panic because it's just a freaking joke. People tell the same joke or story all the time.

A lot of that flashier stuff from Mystery Method or The Game, remember that the majority of those guys were in Hollywood/LA, where being a little flashier and eccentric was really just being a slight step up in energy from the showbiz crowd. Part of the resistance to using anything close to a script, even if its just one or two things to say, is that a lot of guys are afraid of "getting caught." As long as you're not quoting a ten year old book you'll be fine. The other fear is of guys in the community calling you a nerd for it. Well fuck them, if you're getting laid it's working, who cares.

Finally, you'll probably get a lot of posts on this thread detailing the conflict of "inner game versus outer game." They will make it sound as if you have to either become a mentalist, attracting women with your super masculine vibe and energy radiating outward, OR trying to pick up women using magic tricks, canned lines and routines. You can do both!

Best of luck to you, man!

I'm sure there is something to be gained from reading The Game for you, but you'll find newer and better perspectives on YouTube. Read it for fun.

Best I can tell, the name Real Social Dynamics is so named because they try to teach sexuality and seduction as it really exists in the world, not how it is taught to us via social conditioning. At the opposite end of the spectrum from the "Mystery Method" you will find in The Game, look at stuff by RSDAlexander on the natural instinct method.
