The Venusian Arts Handbook that is available for Download .pdf through LimeWire, BitTorrent, and other services. This is also know as "Mystery Method: How to Get Beautiful Women in Bed" which is available if you want to pay at local book stores and on Amazon.com

The reason I suggest this book first is it gets you a good understanding of the 9 steps and 3 phases from Attraction, Comfort, and Seduction. It gives you the understanding and basis for where you are in the process with your target (the girl). It also gets you up to speed on common PUA terminology, and how to work with a Wingman.

From there I personally recommend reading "The Game" by Neil Strauss, and "Double Your Dating" by David DeAngelo. There are other great books out there but these are a good foundation.

I'll be totally honest--I've never even read The Game. Niel seems like a good writer, but is it worth reading? I seems like basically a journalistic tale of the world of PUAs, rather than something with real practical value.

Would anyone put it on PUA required reading list?

The Game is a very good book. It shows you some of the techniques and routines but its more to show what PUA can do to your life....the good and the bad. I suggest reading it though, its one of the best books ive ever read

agreed the game was and is and amazing book but it's not really a book focused on teaching you stuff its more about the life of neil and how he became a PUA while throwing in some techniques...
but i'm not gunna lie that's the only book i've read so far in the PUA stuff and it's helped me alot.. great for starters..

If you haven't read ANYTHING, definitely the Venusian Arts Handbook is a MUST. I require all of my personal students to read it. It's that important because as Jsmooth said, it gives you the foundation. The Game is also excellent, but another great one for newbies and veterans alike is Rules of The Game.

And, welcome to the forum.

I've read double your dating, and it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. So I've just ordered The Mystery Method: How to Get Beautiful Women Into Bed. Hopefully this should improve my game some more and take me out of the typical dating world and into the pick up world.
Does anyone have an opinion on Neil Strauss' 2nd book The rules of the game?

The book he has differs slightly from the Handbook in structure (I just flipped through the Table of Contents).

Oh, actually I know The Handbook and the Rules of The Game are different. I have both. I was pointing out that I made a comment about Rules of The Game, saying that it's great for newbs and veterans alike.

I was actually looking for a more direct comparison from a reader of these books, I had heard The Game was an entertaining read, but less instructional than Mystery's book. So I wasn't sure how much better instruction wise the Rules of The Game was.
Double Your Dating helped me with my dating life when I read it a long time ago, but I'm just looking for a different type of love life now. So a different type of book is needed. I think I made a good decision in ordering mystery's book to start with, and I can look at getting The rules of the game later on.

Thanks for your input

Sorry, you weren't clear on that.

Mystery's book gives you the foundation. The core principles. Style's book does too, but from a slightly different perspective. They will both help you in your growth. Also, Rules of The Game has some EXCELLENT tips in there for newbies and veterans alike.

So, yes, you've ordered a great book, and Rules is a great book too.

I'm behind The Game for the first book that anyone interested in PUA should read. By being open minded and critical and not taking every word as gospel, you can see the good and the bad of PUA. Sure, there are tons of great things about learing pickup and you can better yourself in ways that affect more than just being better with girls, but there are the darker sides too.

Some people become obsessed with the lifestyle and that's all they ever think about and they compare everything they see to it, which is unhealthy. Other people decide to only take certain bits and ignore the rest (I had a student like that, emphasis on the HAD) and they tend to become unbalanced, going overboard in certain areas, such as negging, or kino, but not working on the supporting stuff and coming off as a jerk, or creepy. Some people stop caring about anything but the conquest, the game; it's not even about the girl anymore, it's about the game of getting the girl, then they bang her and cut her loose, again that's highly unhealthy and leads to depression as you witness.

I consider The Game to be not only a great way to slowly introduce you to terms, routines and their relevance, how they came to be and their purpose, but also an admonishment to stay true to yourself, your core values and not become twisted.

After reading that, Tripp highly recommends the VA handbook and I can't give a "yay" or "nah" on the subject, cause I haven't read it yet, as I prefer a natural style and it hasn't been high on my reading list. Mystery is brilliant and really good, so if his style appeals to you (something easily learned by reading The Game), then read it.

Personally I like more natural and when I read The Secrets of Female Sexuality by David Shade, things just clicked for me. Everything that I knew, thought I knew and was afraid to do or say, was laid out before me and I went, "I was right...all along, I knew what to do, but I was afraid to do it. I am man hear me roar." Lol, ok so not the last part, but you get the drift, I felt empowered and knew exactly what to do from then on. I wouldn't be what I am today without that book and hey, I'm running a workshop in Miami in a week, so I have no quams about recommending it to others.

No, no...I meant that the Venusian Arts Handbook and The Mystery Method: How to Get Beautiful Women Into Bed (which is what he has), are different.
