The first is a kind of natural confidence and flow and developing a mindset, without pre-selected learned routines, while the second style is about routines, techniques and learned lines. I can't comment on the success of either because I have little experience, but I am wondering which would be more effective.

I like to look it as either going in a straight line vs. zigzagging- either way, you're going to get there.
Confident is a state of mind, however, while learned routines is not. Once you have the routines down as well as muscle memory, it will start becoming your state of mind as well.
Either way, I roll with confidence, but that's not saying I don't know learned routines. It is, generally, good to know things. _________________ A morning of awkwardness is far better than a night of loneliness.

Then as far as routines go? Only memorize and regurgitate, that way you have the best stuff. Memorize at least 15 possible answers for any objection. Stick with the material, do not deviate.
Stay positive. Work at it. You can do it. _________________ What you sow is what you reap
