I am pretty close and open with my family. They are well aware that I am constantly chasing tail. More recently, they have suggested I settle down and find a girlfriend or establish a few FWB relationships. Their points are valid, particularly they are concerned with my safety as well as better managing my time and effort as to apply them to professional/educational goals.

1. I am curious if others have been in the same situation, and if/how they made the transition?
2. If they did not make the transition, how did they alleviate their families concerns?

I tend to do as I please, and walk to the beat of my drum, though I do value the support and opinion of my family.

You can settle down without a serious relationship.

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." Henry David Thoreau

How do they know that you're dating at all?

And if you weren't dating at all would they have any issues with it? Like if you just wanted to focus on your career and get a woman later. Are you bringing one night stands around your family?

Do what YOU want to do. At the end of the day, YOU"RE living your life, not your family.

The problem isn't that you're chasing tail. The problem is HOW you're doing it. You can better manage your time and efforts without being in a monogamous relationship. You can be SAFE without being in a monogamous relationship. There are things that you should change, but settling down doesn't have to be one of them. Make the real changes they're asking to see, and not the surface one.

Thanks for the input guys. I just believe they are concerned because I am moving to an urban area, and spending time with an older crowd. In the old days, chasing around college girls in an affluent area did not give them much pause.

Time to stop worrying about what your family thinks about your social life.
