There's this burrito place with a tall, gorgeous, cool looking server girl that I want to get to know. Problem is, she makes burritos in a place that is usually packed and I only have 30 seconds of a window till I'm moved onto the next server. This got me thinking 'what's the best way to approach a situation where you only have very short periods of time?'

I could approach, smile, give her my order and then, as she's making it, say some witty line to ask her out or get her number in front of the other customers, (I don't care about the other customers hearing me, but she might. Plus she has other staff next to her), but that's so easy to shoot down and she probably gets short interactions like that daily.

(P.S, I'm not gonna stalk out the joint)

Get some flirty banter going with her. If you're used to being around women and having them laugh etc. this should be relatively easy as long as she is willing to play along.

Then if everything is going very well with her, obviously I almost never recommend this but in this situation, write her a note with a very brief message and your # on the receipt or something and hand it to her.

Pretty much that ^.

Most employees are not allowed to get "friendly" with customers.

If you're talking abt a place like Chipotle, I doubt you'll have even 30 seconds to flirt tbh. If it's like the Chip in my city or other's Ive been to, there are 4-5 employees, one for bread or bowl, one for rice, one for beans. You get 10 seconds...basically they ask you a question, scoop something and ask the customer behind you. You can say a line, she laughs or plays back, and she's already asking the other guy behind you. If it were me, and I had to go for it, I'd just be direct and discreet. Whisper, hey you're cute or whatever, if you wanna go out whisper your number and I'll text you. Thats about the time you got. I wont do the note, just because when I go to Chipotle, things are moving too fast, and I dont know the situation. She could have cool coworkers, it could be a slow day and it works. Or she could have bad/gossiping coworkers, her manager could be there, she could be new. In situations where I go for a number and a manager/customers could be around, I tell the girl to tell me and I'll remember it. It kinda depends on where she is. If she's one of the first people in the assembly line, I'd say tell me the number. If she's the cashier, then the note receipt as she has a bit more time.

Notes are lame. This isn't middle school passing notes to your crush.

Doesn't matter if you don't give a fuck. She will. She's employed there and she won't be risking her job because you're an alpha "mail". People in line will also give a fuck and will not "wait while you talk", and if you do this in front of me with that attitude you may just get thrown out of the queue.

I'm all for not being too concerned with what other people think about you, but that doesn't mean you need to be a social idiot about it.

Some situations are not ideal. It's just what it is. OP knows it's a longshot and it's not gonna get any better.

I'd say you are concerning yourself with things you shouldnt be concerning yourself about. The surroundings, her employment, the 30 seconds window, all of those things are a factor but in my opinion nothing you should actively contemplate on when you are wanting to approach this girl.

Instead, pick an approach, it can be a short flirty chat or indeed a note, and go for it. If it works, great, if it doesnt, next time you try something else. If you're going for a note, make it direct and showing intent from the get go. You dont want a pen-pal, you want to lay this chick. Otherwise there is no need to create challenges for yourself where there arent any.
