At the risk of just being contrarian, Arch, I want to read the actual studies. People have a bad habit of claiming an experiment did more than the actual researchers claim. In this case, since both websites are already about being fit, they have a reason to do that. Not necessarily true, but worth considering.

That goes double for the first link, because at a glance it appears to have just been a survey. Surveys are notorious for unreliability in these subjects because women lie. For instance, the case I mentioned both polled people and used the fmri. Women said they cared about looks, but the brain scan didn't reflect that.

And honestly, I am really tired of us being compared to peacocks. It feels dumb to argue when I'm about to go lift, but I get heavy on this kind of discussion. Too many guys work out because they think it will replace a good, creepy sarge lol.

Yes, that is rather lame, haha.

True. There are a lot of ripped guys that can get the one night stand with the drunk girl at the bar, but will text her 50 times the next week and she'll run away.

You still need to apply the fundamental rules. But man, if you can be ripped AND consistently employ those rules, you are going to be a force for a long, long time.

True, I think most of our disagreement is in just how much of that comes from the body. I am a big believer in solowe economics and diminishing marginal returns. I remember another forum where a guy made, basically, this thread. He took a year, got in much better shape, bought some nicer clothes, got his shit together. But then he started saying he wasn't nearly done yet. He went on about how he wanted to add on fifteen more pounds of muscle, get some tattoos, add a couple inches to his dick and I wanted to shake him. I wanted to scream out "dude go see what you can do now before deciding you still aren't good enough!"

I'm beginning to get the vibe you just sit inside and play video games.
My gf and I egg each other on to keep fit. she loves my arms, curls up in them, and gets riled up. I work hard at it.
Are you capable of critical thinking at all? Doesn’t seem like it.
My wife and I keep fit too, dun dun dun……

This is such a lazy cop out. All men are capable of building muscle. And women love it.
Thank you for the wonderful blanket statement, which means absolutely nothing at face value. 99% of men will look nothing like the guy in the OP. Women also love a million other things about guys. Many of which might be more time effective to get.

A great body will supersede "style" every time, because style is a fad. A great body is harder to get than stylish clothes. Scarcity creates value, and it's why I can walk into a bar with a $20 t-shirt and go home with one of the hired guns, and the 40+ pound overweight slobs at the bar are going home and jerking off to porn despite being the same age as me and wearing suits.
Thanks for that cliché story about your “bar experiences.” Information which I have on hand says otherwise, so I'd say you're dead wrong unless you can show overwhelming evidence that supports your (currently baseless) claim.
Style and self-care has been shown to be more important than muscularity when these things get put against one another. The differences can be quite significant (almost 3-fold for style in the below survey, for example). Here’s a couple pieces (research and survey based):

I posted actual studies, not a poll. All this time fruitlessly arguing in this thread could be used for the gym.

Try paying attention for once instead of throwing around platitudes.

I provided

1) the summary of an *actual* study with full references

2) a unique and highly relevant survey

both of which actually compare, at the same time, various elements of male physical attractiveness.

You provided:

1) a Men's Health link to an article that mentioned studies but didn't provide links or details which said "muscles are good" (well, all else equal, no shit?)

2) a "College Candy" (seriously?) article that linked to another article which said something along the lines of "burly men have more short term relationships but less long term ones than less burly men"

neither of which actually compared style/dress/grooming (in any way) to muscularity.

Well done on showing absolutely nothing relevant.

I linked to a university study, lol.

You sound frustrated.

Women don't just like menwith muscles — they go for them.

Men who are more muscular than average are much more likely to have short-term affairs and multiple sexp artners than their scrawnier peers, according to new UCLA research published in the August issue of the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.
More muscles, more sex. Better fitness, better sex.

The series of studies, conducted by Frederickand co-author Martie Haselton,a UCLA associate professor of communication studies and psychology, is thefirst published research to quantify an association between men's muscularityand their success in the sack. The four-year project also scientificallyquantified for the first time women's perceptions of the importance ofmuscularity in selecting short- and long-term partners.

Why are you arguing against a straw-man? I never claimed muscularity, all else equal, was bad. Last time for you: the point is that the muscularity level in the OP is unrealistic for most guys and of limited use even if achieved, depending on the situation. Also, other physical traits may be equally or more valued for attraction. End of story.

It's complicated.

You can have an amazing body but if you are a total dick, many women find that a turn off.

Now, let's say you have an impeccable physique and you're an idiot. Nope, sorry. Would go for the average dude with brains.
