Didn't have time to check back, hence the late reply.
However, I am really glad I posted this. It's interesting to see the wide range of opinions. I do realize the concept of qualifying a large portion of the population as "average" is arrogant to a certain degree, but generalization is somewhat necessary in keeping a post brief and a point accurate.

I can relate to OP at a time in the past, but now relate to the other posters and what they say about listening. And if you're a maverick surely you'd have the skill set to at least find other passionate people
This is something I will certainly keep in mind moving forward. Listening is not something I should take lightly. To answer your last statement, yes, I do have the skill set. That's part of why I'm here

I can only relate with the OP regarding some rather stereotypical groups of people. What comes to mind:
Frat boys who do nothing but drink light beer and watch sports all day, plus go to college because someone else told them it was a good idea... and they end up learning nothing.
Girls who do nothing but shop for clothing online and Facebook stalk all day.
I wouldn't argue that the above describes the majority of people, though.
This quote is really what I was getting at. Group think is a scary reality.
The point of making this post was to see what you guys thought. With that being said, the biggest thing I was trying to express is that most people seem to follow life paths not of their own making/choosing. People will gripe about mundane inconveniences, but then fail to come through in situations where all they needed to do was go after what they truly want. That is absolutely not where I want to be. It's sad to see people waste so much potential. As someone who wasn't supposed to walk ever again, I see every new interaction as an opportunity.
