Can someone please explain to me how this works and explain several techniques to use them out in the field. Thank you guys.

It's just a level of social understanding.
Most people won't steal your shit.
So, the idea behind it is, you're talking to a girl and you want to "lock her in."
You'd put your hat on her head so she has it. Now, she has to talk to you again before you leave.... Or that's the idea behind it.
Honestly though bro, if you're a lame ass dude... and you put your hat on some girls head in a bar... She's either gonna give it away to someone else or throw it on the ground lol
I've found shit like this only really works if you're a cool guy and she already likes you. It will save your ass in the situations where her friends are trying to drag her away... Then she will come back to give you your hat back. Don't try and pull some weird social game to trick a girl into liking you. You're just gonna lose a lot of hats.

Return this item back to you. Letting a girl borrow something from you where she feels compelled to return it to you which gives you the opportunity to re-engage with you. Are these considered lock in props?

Edit - this is another one those tricks that mystery uses back in the day. On paper it sounds like a good idea. It seemed to work on the book and the show etc.
In reality, yes of course it can work but it just isn't nessacary. It's the wrong frame. You're basically thinking "I need to stop this girl from running away so I need a trick for her to stick around me" = needy frame.
If your frame was "if she runs away, it's her loss, she ain't having my scarf" = strong frame, willing to walk away. (If she runs away, it's because you're not keeping her engaged enough, would a girl do this to Brad Pitt?)
Focus being on being attractive. That would be a better (non needy) way to for her to stick around. All these prop tricks and lock in tricks are mental masurbation that just adds complexity to something is actually simple if you let it be. _________________ USER HAS BEEN BANNED FOR REPEATEDLY IGNORING MOD WARNINGS AND MULTIPLE RULE VIOLATIONS
