Is there a good way to approach women in this situation? Keep in mind, I don't want to make my kids uncomfortable.

People enjoy talking to other people the vast majority of the time, so if you just start being friendly and say something to someone nearby (if they aren't nearby, find a way to make it look like you naturally ended up near them) then they are most likely gonna respond positively and talk back.
Once you've opened them using anything from, "Did you see the fight outside?!" to, "Wow, long line-up, huh?" then you just need to remember the 90-10 Rule and provide 90% of the conversation, because she's only gonna put in about 10%, so be interesting and funny.
Then say something to the effect of, "[insert compliment about them being funny or such] we should continue this conversation later." Then hand her a piece of paper and a pen, or your cell phone or something.
The kids (assuming they are decently behaved) are just a DHV, because it shows you can take care of others and flips several attraction switches. Hell if I had kids, or lived near family that had kids, I'd probably take them out from time to time as a form of peacocking. _________________ "The 'Brick Walls' are there to allow you to prove how badly you want something!" ~ Randy Pausch
