What's an alpha way to respond to "nice haircut" around people I'm not trying to game other than "oh, thanks"?

Response, "Yeah, I know!"

Response, "I know, that's why it's this way!"

You sure that's not overly cocky?

A simple 'Thank you" said sincerely.

Not if you are sincere about it and not being cocky. If you know you look good, then why try to hide it?

+1.

Said with a smile and eye contact is more than sufficient.

The 'yeah I know' bit, like you point out, could come off as arrogant.

I've found that if you 'pat yourself on the back', so to speak, you actually DLV yourself. A truly confident alpha wouldn't need to compliment themselves, so just a thank you would be the best response. When someone compliments you and says, for example, "You're so smart" and you respond with, "Yeah, I know", it draws away all respect and interest that was given with the initial compliment. Instead of thinking remembering how smart you are, they will instead focus on how arrogant and egotistical you are.

I agree to a point, but there's always exceptions to the rule. If you deliver it well, saying, "I know." With a big smile that knows you aren't saying it to be cocky, but because you FEEL good and you're confident, then it can be a very powerful thing. Now, about the smart thing, yeah, bragging about intelligence is almost always a DLV and is better demonstrated, but letting people know that you feel good and so you know you look good, is a confidence thing and if said right will come off as a bit of a shock, but in a DHV sort of way.

How about "yeah, isn't it awesome?"

That way, it's more about the haircut than it is about me.

What about when it goes down like this:

Them: "Nice haircut"
You: "Thanks"
Them: "I was being sarcastic, it's actually kind of gay"
In this case I just walked away, since I was leaving anyway and it was a couple guys standing outside smoking, but if I had wanted to respond...

You: "Thanks"
Them: "I was being sarcastic, it's actually kind of gay"
YOU: "Are you trying to seduce me?"

Also when someone compliments me i pick when to accept their validation and when not to. In accepting it i thank them, in a genuine manner. When not accepting it i typically make a remark about how it refects on me and then move on with a convo or something else.

I also mix it up, sometimes i will accept the validation and other times i will brush it off.

Accept:
THEM: "Nice haircut/I like your haircut..."
ME: "Thanks, i like having my hair in x style" or "Thanks, i really like it even gave my barber/stylist something extra."

Dont accept:
THEM: "Nice haircut/I like your haircut..."
ME: "I love it, even gave my barber/stylist a little extra, they did a great job." or "Yea i really like my hair in this style."

Notice how when i dont accept/brush the compliment off i dont completely ignore the topic (my hair) nor do i ask them to further validate it. I simply state that i like it, or something about it, and make it seem as if thats what matters (because that is what matters).

If i choose to accept someones validation i may give a simple "Thanks/Thank you." or through it into my normal non-accepting response.

Like i said though i will mix it up in the same set or with the same person, i will never completely accept or deny all compliments.
